Founded in 1992 and headquartered in the UK, the International Well Control Forum (IWCF) is a key not-for-profit player in the oil and gas sector, focused on enhancing safety across the industry. Their mission is to develop, deliver, and oversee well control training, assessments, and certification programs tailored specifically for exploration and production.
IWCF works hand-in-hand with national regulatory bodies and major industry figures like the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) to ensure top-notch safety standards. Their training programs are structured into five levels, each aimed at equipping industry professionals with the critical skills needed to excel in their roles and prevent well control incidents.
Globally, these programs are rolled out through a network of accredited centers. IWCF handles all assessments, which are conducted as closed-book exams under the watchful eye of independent invigilators, guaranteeing adherence to the highest industry standards.
IWCF Oil & Gas Training
IWCF Level 1 Program
- IWCF Level 1 Well Control Awareness Course: Level 1 is the industry’s first free, online course which is a useful tool for anyone new or experienced in the industry, especially students and graduates, personnel involved in well control and those who are simply interested in well control.
IWCF Drilling Well Control Programs
- IWCF Level 2 Drilling Well Control Program: This Program is the drilling and wells personnel Basic Training and for Operation Team personnel - well-site based position whose action or inaction could directly influence well control assurance. The learning element of a Level 2 course can be completed online.
- IWCF Level 3 Drilling Well Control Program: This program is available for any role expected to shut in a well. This program is suitable for an Equipment Operator - has to perform an action to prevent or respond to well control accident. This is a classroom course.
- IWCF Level 4 Drilling Well Control Program: This program is the Well Site Supervisor Training who has oversight that correct actions are carried out. This is a classroom course.
IWCF Well Intervention Pressure Control Programs
- IWCF Level 2 Well Intervention Pressure Program: This Program is the drilling and wells personnel basic training and for assistant operators (wireline, coiled tubing, and Snubbing) should attend this course. The learning element of a Level 2 course can be completed online.
- IWCF Level 3Well Intervention Pressure Program: This program is available for any role expected to shut in a well. This program is suitable for Equipment Operator (Wireline, Coiled Tubing, Snubbing). This is a classroom course.
- IWCF Level 4 Well Intervention Pressure Program: This program is the Well Site Supervisor Training and suitable for Well Services supervisor/completion supervisor/service leader. This is a classroom course.
