Maritime Law and Maritime Archaeology Education


Founded in 1876 and situated in the heart of historic Bristol, The University of Bristol University is internationally distinguished and one of the very best in the UK. Bristol is in the premier league of British higher education institutions, with an excellent reputation for its teaching and research. Academic Programs

Masters Programs

  • LLM in Maritime Law: The LLM in Maritime Law program offers a range of units for those wishing to specialize in shipping and related matters. It provides an opportunity to study comprehensively both the private and public law aspects of international maritime law, in particular in a commercial and international trade law setting.
    Admission Requirements: Academic Requirements are either a first or upper second class Honours degree in Law or a degree with an adequate law component or a recognized professional legal qualification. In exceptional circumstances, other qualifications of equivalent status may be accepted.
  • MA in Maritime Archaeology and History: The Masters program in maritime archaeology involves a taught program and a dissertation. The MA aims to combine a sound historical and theoretical introduction to maritime archaeology with practical experience. The program includes optional practical training in underwater archaeology, as well as an introduction to artifact studies, historical boats and ships, and field trips. The Maritime MA emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches and current debates in academic and professional maritime archaeology. Voluntary work for various maritime conservation projects around Bristol is also encouraged and supported.
    Admission Requirements: Bachelors degree in a related field; A personal statement; two academic references and English language certificates (IELTS or TOEFL) if your first degree is not taught in English.
