NVQ Apprenticeship Program in Marinas & Boatyards & STCW Medical Training in Cornwall UK
Established in 2015 and located at Carclaze, St Austell in Cornwall, Cornwall Training is a Register of Training Organisations (ROTO) registered training provider accredited by the awarding bodies Qualsafe, Highfield, SQA and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. With a high pass rate of 96% across a range of services and courses, Cornwall Training is an MCA accredited center which offers the first aid elements for the seafaring needs.
Cornwall Training provides training in a wide range of subjects including First Aid, Health & Safety, Emergency Care, CITB SSSTS, SMSTS IOSH, and for larger corporate training requirements. The trainers are all experts in their field, and most are serving emergency services or ex-military medics for the medical based qualifications.
- NVQ Diploma in Maritime Studies - Marinas & Boatyards: The qualification and apprenticeship is aimed at those working in Marinas and Boatyards involved in moving boats in marinas, moving and storing boats in marina hard standing areas and providing basic services such as providing fuel and pumping out grey water. British Marine Federation (BMF) has been leading this development and has worked with its members including MDL Marinas, Tingdene Marinas and Berthon Boat Company to develop a qualification which is suitable for those working in both inland and coastal marinas as well as those working in stand-alone boatyards. As part of the apprenticeship you will gain - NVQ in Marinas and Boatyards, Functional skills in English & Maths, Employment Rights and Responsibility, You will have training both on and off the job. You will be fully supported in your learning by assessors and trainers along with the employer. The qualification fits into the Maritime Operations Apprenticeship Framework Level 2, as Pathway 7 Marinas and Boatyards.
STCW Medical Courses
- STCW Proficiency in Elementary First Aid, inc Emergency First Aid at Work: The Elementary first aid course module is a combination of theory and practical training for basic first aid and lifesaving skills. This course is intended for all seagoing personnel who need to be able to practice emergency first aid on board ship.
- STCW Proficiency in Medical First Aid inc Level 3 First Response Emergency Care (4 days): The MCA/STCW recognized and approved Proficiency in Medical First Aid course has been designed with seafarers in mind, although primarily aimed at those responsible for carrying out First Aid duties on vessels that venture up to 150 miles from a safe haven, this course could be extremely useful for any person who takes to sea, either with a crew, or as a lone yachtsman.
- STCW Proficiency in Medical Care inc Level 4 First Response Emergency Care (5 days): This MCA approved training is intended for seafarers who are designated to take charge of medical care on board ship, in accordance with Regulation VI/4 of the annex to the STCW Convention and Section A-VI/4 (4-6) of the STCW code, and the Merchant Shipping (Training and Certification) regulations 1997.
