Located at Marina Port Vell in Barcelona Spain, Barcelona Sea Academy provides IYT training courses, Superyacht Commercial Endorsements, boat charter and other specialist services in Barcelona. The school is specialized in IYT Sailing courses, IYT Motor courses and IYT Powerboat courses.
They have been helping people who want to learn to sail for years by providing a full range of sailing courses as well as courses forSuperyacht professionals to MCA / STCW standards.
The programs are suitable for a complete novice starting out with a sailing taster weekend or a more experienced sailor looking to increase skills. IYT is a professional yachting organization for professional mariners and Barcelona Sea Academy issues professional yachting certificates where applicable.

Training Programs
IYT Courses
- IYT Superyacht Deck Course (5 days): The five day IYT Megayacht Crew course is a MCA approved Yacht Rating course and is highly recommended for entry level students who wish to enter the Superyacht industry. It comprises both theory and practical elements that give the student a comprehensive and all-round general knowledge of the requirements of the Superyacht industry. Graduates receive three international certificates recognized by the MCA, US Coast Guard, 25 governments, and all major crew placement agencies.
- IYT PWC (1 day): This is a one day theory and practical course designed to cover the requirements for the safe operation and maintenance of a Personal Watercraft. As well as the theory component, the instruction will emphasize the practical applications of handling a PWC on the water.
- IYT RIB Master (2 days): Small Powerboat and RIB Master (MCA approved). This two day course is a commercial MCA approved boat handling practical.
- IYT Superyacht Hospitality: Professional superyacht hospitality program conducted in association with Gerards.
- IYT VHF Radio: VHF radio operator’s certificate.
STCW Courses
- Basic STCW 2010 (1 week): STCW requires all seafarers to receive familiarization and Basic Safety Training or instruction in accordance with section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code. The training components listed in the STCW training Week are a requirement for anyone wanting to work at sea.
- Security Awareness (STCW): This half-day course provides necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to personnel intending to work on ships who will not have any designated Security duties.
- Designated Security Duties (STCW): This one day course is designed to give those undertaking Designated Security Duties on board ship the essential education and training. The program meets the knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the STCW table A-VI/6-2.
- Ship’s Security Officer (STCW): This course is specifically designed for crew who may encounter a security or safety problem as they transit hostile environments and adverse conditions. It includes an introduction to the background of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS ), the roles of the Company Security Officer (CSO) and Ship Security Officer (SSO).
