Formed in 1996 as part of a groundbreaking partnering agreement with the Royal Navy’s Recruiting and Training Agency (NRTA), Flagship is much more than a leading provider of training solutions. The company’s highly skilled personnel deliver, in conjunction with the Royal Navy, training solutions ranging from ship familiarization to engineering for more than 400 worldwide customers.

Jointly owned by BAE SYSTEMS and the VT Group, Flagship’s comprehensive portfolio of complementary services includes training technology and training support, as well as facilities management and construction services to the UK’s Ministry of Defense. The unique engineering training capability is renowned by commercial customers who choose VT Flagship to deliver bespoke programs, from apprenticeships through to post-graduate qualifications.

A diverse range of training programs include sea safety and fire fighting, practical warfare and ship familiarization. Training Programs

Sea Training

  • Practical Onboard Sea Training: VT Flagship’s Practical Onboard sea training is designed to deliver whole ship skills training across all areas of ship operation; from marine engineering to bridge management and safe navigation. Focusing on ship safety and damage control, the training provides trainees with the valuable skills to deal with emergencies on board. The Onboard Sea Training is delivered primarily by VT Flagship employees, often supported by naval personnel, all working to the highest Royal Navy standards. VT Flagship’s practical onboard sea training crosses a broad capability such as Seamanship; Diving; Marine Engineering; Sensors; and Internal and External Communications.

Sea Safety Training

  • Basic Sea Safety 5 Day Course: This course, which is delivered at HMS Excellent in Portsmouth, provides Maritime & Coastguard Agency accredited sea safety training for personnel working in the commercial shipping industry and meets the requirements of STCW95.
  • Intermediate Sea Safety 5 Day Course: This five day course is normally attended by naval personnel as a refresher course following an earlier Basic Sea Safety Course and or prior to a seagoing appointment.
  • Personal Survival Techniques 1 Day Course: This one day course equips trainees with both basic and intermediate level skills for Personal Survival at sea. It includes both theory and practical drills (wet and dry) and covers the use of survival equipment in use in Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels.

Engineering Training

  • Mechanical and Marine Engineering Training: VT Flagship delivers academic and practical courses, covering a range of mechanical and marine disciplines. From basic through to advanced levels, these include - Mechanical principles; Analytical methods for engineers; Hydraulic; Gas turbine; Diesel engines; Pneumatic thermodynamics; Design; Refrigeration; Power generation; High voltage; Control maintenance and repair techniques; and Process technology.
