Founded in 2006, Wavetrain Ltd provides training & consultancy services to the international shipping and commercial yacht sectors, as well as port authorities, government agencies, and operators worldwide. Wavetrain courses are recognized by the UK Department for Transport, the Nautical Institute , EU (Estonia), major flag Administrations, and/or Designated Authorities of IMO Member states.
Apart from London, Wavetrain also have their operations in Tallinn, Estonia and Abuja, Nigeria. Wavetrain also regularly conduct training at a client’s own venue, anywhere worldwide, including in Africa and the Middle East.
The courses are held regularly onboard the historic HQS Wellington in London, home of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, which is also its London office. Wavetrain is currently adapting several of the Maritime Security and safety courses to be delivered online. These can be accessed individually or bulk buy to corporate clients.
Wavetrain also provides Security Consultancy and the Consultants are drawn exclusively from senior personnel from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Master Mariners of the British Merchant Navy. Services include, but are not limited to, Security surveys, ISPS /ISM audits and compliance, anti-piracy, support for offshore operations and expert witness testimony in cases involving piracy and maritime crime.
Training Programs
Face to Face Training
- Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) (3 days): This certification is for those appointed as PFSO or those who have a responsibility as Port Facility Security Officer. Courses are UK DfT and EU (Estonia) approved and recognized worldwide.
- Port Facility Security Officer - Refresher Course (1 day): The UK department for transport (DfT ) now require that all PFSOs who have been qualified for 5 years or more must undertake a 1 day refresher course with a DfT approved training provider.
- Ship Security Officer (SSO): A key requirement of the ISPS Code is for the people with security responsibilities to be appropriately trained to carry out their duties. The maritime authorities require that the SSO associated with a ship undergo approved training. This UK MCA and Marshall Islands approved training program provides ship’s officers with the knowledge and skills to carry out their duties as a designated Ship Security Officer.
- Company Security Officer (CSO) (4 days) - MUSC Course: This course is for security officers and persons who have been, or are likely to be, appointed as Company Security Officer under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Also suited to Senior Security consultants who wish to add a Maritime dimension to their CV. This course is provided by MUSC London.
- Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD): All personnel who have been or are likely to have Designated Security Duties in the maritime industry under the ISPS Code are required to complete this course. This course is provided by MUSC London.
- Port State Control Officer (Awareness) (1 day): This course is for personnel carrying out the duties of DPA/CSO, superintendents, operations and fleet managers, senior officers at sea.
Online Maritime Safety Courses
- Level 1 - Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Awareness Courses (Online): The Level 1 provides basic theoretical knowledge, advice on how to spot danger signs and suggested early emergency actions when encountering a potentially dangerous Lithium-ion battery that might be entering, or is already in, thermal runaway. The course is approved by the Nautical Institute and is recognized for CPD.
- Level 2 - Dealing with Lithium-Ion Battery Incidents: This course is for Firefighting & supervisory personnel who may be required to deal with a fire/explosion involving a lithium battery or battery energy storage system.
- Level 3 - Safe Management of Lithium-Ion Batteries: This course is for personnel involved in the management of devices that use Lithium-ion batteries, including; ships Masters, Port Authorities, land-based storage facilities, distribution & transport managers, waste management companies, mining operators, solar power system owners, public transportation and leisure companies.
