Port Security is by no means the responsibility of dedicated Security staff alone, it is also the responsibility of everyone who works in or frequents the port or port facility on a regular basis. Security awareness is vital to the safety, security and health of port personnel and others such as contractors and their employees in the port environment.

All the personnel at port should be made aware of their responsibilities to fellow workers, and the port community. Appropriate training of personnel working in the port should maximize personal awareness of behavior, incidents, events or objects when going about their daily tasks. The training includes clear lines for reporting to supervisors, managers or appropriate authorities.

The course aims to provide knowledge required to enable personnel without designated security duties in connection with a Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) to enhance security in accordance with the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code, regulation (EC) No 725/2004 of the European Parliament and the Council of 31 March 2004 on enhancing ship and port facility security, and the directive 2005/65/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 26 October 2005 on Enhancing Port Security.
