In 2017, the IMO issued MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3 Guidelines on maritime cyber risk management. The IMO Maritime Safety Committee then adopted these guidelines through Resolution MSC.428(98) Maritime Cyber Risk Management in Safety Management Systems. The resolution encourages administrations to ensure the appropriate management of the cyber risks in existing safety management systems.

This course examines the measures required to mitigate and defend against these types of threats and provide seafarers with the basic knowledge and training to enable them to safeguard onboard equipment.
The Cyber Security Strategy for Vessels online course examines the Cyber Security threats that exist, both generally and specifically within the maritime environment. The course examines the weaknesses that there may be in ship IT and OT systems, and how they may be exploited - and then goes on to look at the measures that can be taken to mitigate and defend against these types of threats. This online course has been created to advise senior shipping personnel, responsible for the on-board security of a variety of ship’s systems.
The Cyber Security Awareness for Superyacht Crew & Staff online course provides an overview of the cyber threats that exist, risk management, and cyber security compliance for Superyachts. The course also looks at issues for crew & staff with social media, then examines the measures that can be taken to mitigate and defend against these types of threats.

Online Maritime Cyber Security Training
Cyber Security Awareness for Seafarers Certificate
- Course: This fully-online course provides the participant, with a firm grounding in Maritime Cyber Security issues. The training also introduces required measures within the shipboard safety management system (SMS) to ensure that vessels are operationally resilient to cyber risks. The course can be delivered on board ship or ashore.
- Target Group: This course is for seafarers, crew, or staff of any rank working onboard, ashore, around the ship and, those with responsibilities to protect it from such attacks when underway or at a port.
- Acceptance: STCW compliant and internationally recognized certification
- Duration: Approximately 4.5 to 5 hours
- Certification: Learners will receive an electronic copy of the official course certificate in PDF format upon successful completion of the course via the eLearning system.
Cyber Security Strategy for Vessels Course
- Course: This fully-online course has been created to advise senior shipping personnel, responsible for the on-board security of a variety of ships' systems; and will be of benefit to all those with authority for vessel security and business continuity.
- Target Group: The course is suitable for ships’ senior officers (captain, first officer and chief engineer), maritime Insurers, board members of organizations with one or more vessels, and personnel with authority for the day-to-day operation of maritime communications systems, operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT).
- Acceptance: Internationally recognized certification and compliant with STCW Requirements
- Duration: Approximately 4 to 5 hours
- Certification: Learners will receive an electronic copy of the official course certificate in PDF format upon successful completion of the course via the eLearning system.
Cyber Security Awareness for Superyacht Crew & Staff
- Course: This fully online course is designed to provide the crew and staff of a Superyacht with the basic knowledge enabling them to secure their personal devices, safeguard personal data, as well as considering on board equipment that may be vulnerable to cyber security threats. The course also introduces measures within the shipboard Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure that the yacht is resilient to cyber risks.
- Target Group: This course is aimed at all crew and staff personnel of Superyachts, Motor Yachts & Mega Yachts who access personal social media, websites, and other vulnerable applications through shipboard and personal devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktops.
- Acceptance: Internationally recognized certification and compliant with IMO Resolution 2017 MSC.428(98) & IMO Guidelines on maritime cyber risk management 2021.
- Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours
- Certification: Learners will receive an electronic copy of the official course certificate in PDF format upon successful completion of the course via the eLearning system.
