Liberian Registry (LISCR) Approved Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Online Training for Crew and Personnel WITH Designated Security Duties Onboard


In compliance with the STCW Code and  International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS ) Code, all designated personnel who serve onboard vessels to ships are mandated to hold appropriate Security certification.

The Designated Security Duties course has been developed to clearly articulate the security requirements and competency standards prescribed by the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR) for crew members and shipboard personnel assigned specific security responsibilities in accordance with the approved Ship Security Plan, and operating under the authority of the Ship Security Officer (SSO).

The program delivers the requisite underpinning knowledge and proficiency in full alignment with STCW guidance, the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements, IMO Model Course 3.26, and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS ) Code.

  • Course: The aim of this online Proficiency in Designated Security Duties Course, also known as Vessel Security Duties (VSD) is to give those undertaking designated security duties on board ship the essential education and training meeting the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in STCW table A-VI/6-2, which supports Chapter XI-2 of the annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974, as amended and the ISPS Code.
  • Mode of Study & Assessments: All tests and assessments are conducted seamlessly through an entirely online platform.
  • Course Access: 6 months
  • Course Approval: Liberian Registry LISCR (An MCA UK approved course is also available
  • Compliance: STCW regulation Table A-VI/6-2
  • Acceptance: Any country that is signed up to the ISPS Code and STCW Convention should accept the certification.
  • Duration: Approximately 8 hours
  • Online Assessment: Open-Book Assessment after each of the three Learning Outcomes. You must achieve a minimum score of 70% per Assessment to enable you to move onto the next Learning Outcome.
  • Documentation: To complete the process, kindly provide a scan of a recognized form of identification, such as your passport, driving license, or any other officially issued photo ID.
  • Certification: After successfully finishing the online course, verifying their Learner ID, and passing the assessment, learners will be issued an electronic edition of the course certificate in a secure PDF format. This certificate will be sent via email. A printed copy can also be obtained upon request.

  • Recognition of persons who may pose a threat to the security of the ship.
  • Identifying techniques used to circumvent security measures.
  • The handling of Sensitive Security-Related Information [SSRI] and Communications.
  • Identifying security threats including Maritime Piracy & Armed Robbery against Shipping.
  • Security methods, equipment & systems.
  • Security monitoring, monitoring equipment & systems.
  • The Ship Security Alert System [SSAS].
