archived pagesCalifornia Maritime Academy (CSA) is one of the oldest, largest, and most well respected schools in the United States. CSA has taught over 40,000 students to sail since 1964. CSA has prepared mariners for Coast Guard Examinations for many years. Understanding the need for more in-depth courses CSA built a comprehensive United States Coast Guard approved program and exams. Numerous courses are offered which culminate with exams the school has prepared to test the student.

CSA courses utilize classroom, videos, workbooks, models, and (of course) on the water instruction. CSA recognizes that the best way to learn is by experience, 80% of your time is spent on the water.CSA teaches accredited sailing and navigation programs through many universities and colleges, including UCLA extension and Pepperdine University.

CSA courses prepare you to become licensed with The United States Coast Guard and/or accredited with the American Sailing Association (ASA). The courses are taught for schools across the Nation as well as Canada.
