Truro and Penwith College, part of the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), has provided higher education opportunities in Cornwall for the last ten years. With record success and ever increasing popularity it is proving to be the first choice for students in the West Country. In 2008 Truro College merged with Penwith College and a redevelopment of the Penwith site with new buildings and specialist facilities will match the standards of those at Truro College. The majority of the University-level programs offered at Truro and Penwith College are validated by the University of Plymouth.

Training Programs

Apprentice Programs

  • Certificate in Warehousing and Storage - Level 2 Apprenticeship (1 year): Learn, develop and practise the skills required for your job role and for career progression and gain a nationally recognised qualification that is valued by employers across the logistics sector. This program is for entrants of at least 16 years old, contracted to work a minimum of 30 hours per week in the warehousing/logistics sector. Typically up to three days college attendance for each Functional Skill.

RYA Courses

  • RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Shorebased: More advanced course in coastal and offshore (Non Astro) navigation, a follow-on to the RYA Day Skipper/Watchleader Certificate course.
  • RYA Day Skipper/Watchleader Shore-based: Includes coastal navigation, chart work, tides, buoyage, collision regulations, ropework, use of compass, course laying, making use of a GPS and seamanship.
  • RYA Small Craft First Aid Certificate: A First Aid course for all those going to sea and a prerequisite for all Instructor and Yachtmaster Awards.
  • RYA VHF Marine Radio & GMDSS: Classroom based courses use actual radios. The online course uses a computer simulator. Exams for all types of this course consist of a written theory paper and a short practical exam.
