Founded in 2004 and located in Leawood, Kansas, MARSEC Training (formerly Ophion Risk Management) offers Maritime Security (MARSEC) training to companies and contractors who must comply with the U.S. Maritime Transportation and Security Act and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS ) Code.

The company was one of the first to offer certified maritime security training approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Maritime Administration.

MARSEC was the first to offer approved Maritime Security Awareness Training in an e-learning format, and they have trained over 100,000 students since the first approval.

Today MARSEC Training is a leading provider of U.S. Government approved maritime security training. MARSEC Training also offers an extensive catalog of workplace safety e-Learning courses found in our Training Center.

The Maritime Security Awareness (MSA) is required for all facility personnel and seafarers, including part-time and full-time contractors. You can complete the requirement with MARSEC Training's USCG approved, self-paced e-learning course. Other courses and programs are provided onsite upon request.

Maritime Security Courses

  • Maritime Security Awareness (MSA) Online: MSA is based on the Guidelines for Maritime Security Training Providers and meets the content requirements set forth by IMO Model Courses 3.27 (2012) and 3.25 (2011) as well as the U.S. Coast Guard content requirements set forth in Model Course MTSA 04-03. This MSA course was reviewed by U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center (NMC) and approved by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).
  • Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD): The Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties course (VPDSD) provides the knowledge required for vessel personnel with designated security duties in connection with a Vessel Security Plan (VSP) to perform their duties in accordance with the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code, the U.S. Coast Guard regulations contained in 33 CFR Chapter 1 Subchapter H, and/or section A-VI/6 of the STCW Code as amended.
  • Vessel Security Officer (VSO): The Vessel Security Officer course (VSO) provides the knowledge required for Vessel Security Officers, as defined in Section A12.2 of the ISPS Code and in Section VI/5 of the STCW Code, as amended, and in particular, the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a vessel, for implementing and maintaining a Vessel Security Plan and for liaising with the Company Security Officer and Facility Security Officer.
