Located in Charlottetown, PE, PortGuard provides marine facility personnel training necessary to meet Transport Canada Marine Transportation Security Regulations (MTSR). Each of the training courses and materials correspond with the requirements of each position within the standard marine facility framework. Each marine facility has defined positions and roles and have corresponding responsibilities that must be met under regulation, and PortGuard provides the necessary training.

PortGuard has a variety of courses that include Marine Facility Security Officer training, Basic Security Guard Training, and Persons with Security Responsibilities. These courses will ensure you are federally certified under the Canadian Standards Board.

PortGuard also offers services for Officers to remain compliant by providing Drills and Exercises to fit your needs. We will plan, execute, and maintain records of your exercises and drills, in addition to supplying you with a report for your own facility records.

MTSR Port Security Training

  • Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO/PFSO): The Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) course is a certificated course that allows students to receive the necessary marine security training compliant with Sections 304-306 of Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Regulations.
  • Persons With Security Responsibilities (Port): Persons with Security Responsibilities (PWSR) program covers the necessary training components to fulfill Section 307 of Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Regulations’ requirements, which stipulates security personnel working at a port facility must receive the necessary security training or have the appropriate job experience.
  • Persons Without Security Responsibilities (Port): Person’s Without Security Responsibilities (PWOSR) course provides the required training pertaining to Marine Facility Personnel in various positions. Supporting the security of the facility and enhancing the overall operations of a busy commercial port as required by Section 308 of Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Regulations.

Other Security Training Programs

  • Basic Security Guard: Basic Security Guard (BSG) training, providing the trainee all the skills and knowledge required to perform his or her duties as well as being federally certified under the requirements of the Canadian General Standards Board (CAN/CGSB-133.1-2017).
