Port/Marine Facility Personnel with Designated Security Duties (Port DSD) are individuals who have been specifically assigned Security responsibilities at a port facility. They have responsibilities respecting the security of a marine facility and must have, by training or job experience, the knowledge that is relevant to the facility in the areas that relate to their responsibilities are trained to identify potential security threats and take action to prevent them from becoming a risk to the facility or its users.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has established training requirements for port facility personnel with Designated Security Duties under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The Security Awareness Training for Port Facility Personnel with Designated Security Duties training (IMO Model Course 3.24) is necessary to ensure that the personnel responsible for the security of the port facilities are competent and knowledgeable about their roles and responsibilities. Port facility personnel with designated security duties should receive this training at the earliest opportunity and at least every five years thereafter to ensure that their knowledge and skills remain up to date.
