Ship Superintendent Advanced Maritime Operations Training - Transition Confidently from Shipboard to Shore-Side Management

A Ship Superintendent is a senior, shore-based professional responsible for overseeing vessel safety, regulatory compliance (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL), maintenance, personnel, budgets, and operational performance on behalf of the shipowner or management company, while also supporting the ship’s Master and Chief Engineer. They act as the primary bridge between a shipping company's office and its vessels at sea.
The aim of this training is to provide technical superintendents with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to fulfill their dynamic and demanding roles within shipping companies. Designed to meet the requirements of the ISM Code, this course provides a thorough foundation in technical operations, maintenance planning, dry-docking, class and statutory surveys, and regulatory compliance.
This advanced-level program consists of 15 comprehensive chapters covering the operational, technical, regulatory, financial, and leadership responsibilities of the modern ship superintendent. It also examines professional judgement, delegated authority, escalation, ethics, and decision-making under commercial pressure.
The Virtual Maritime Academy (VMA), based in Quebec, Canada, is a DNV-certified maritime training provider that offers STCW-compliant professional development training programs completely online.
