Marine Service Technology Vocational Training at PTC Clearwater, Florida
Founded in 1962, Pinellas Technical College (PTC) - Formerly Pinellas Technical Education Centers (pTEC) has offered students first-rate career and technical education at its two campuses – Clearwater and St. Petersburg - and at extension and clinical locations. pTEC’s emphasis is on postsecondary education focusing on over 40 exciting career areas and about 60 programs.
PTC also offers continuing education courses and commercial training services through theIndustry Services Department. Approximately 12,000 students per year attend PTC for full-time career programs, apprenticeship programs, continuing education courses or commercial training classes for industry.
The Clearwater campus, formerly known as the Technical Education Center and Pinellas Vocational Technical Institute, was the first school in the state to be designated a post-secondary area technical center in 1965. Its 40-acre campus has increased from one to sixteen buildings.
Pinellas Technical College is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).
Training Programs
Marine Tech Program
- Marine Service Technologies (1350 hours - 14 months, full-time): The mission of this program is to prepare students for employment as entry-level marine mechanics and train them in the everyday workings of a marine repair facility.
- Course offering include - Marine Rigger, Outboard Engine Technician, Outboard Engine Diagnostics Technician, Inboard Gas Engine Technician, Drive Train Technician, and Inboard Diesel Technician.
- Industry Certifications: Students who successfully complete the course receive Yamaha Marine’s Introduction to Outboard Systems certification. The ITOS certification is a pre-requisite for Yamaha’s new Maintenance Certification Program (MCP).
