RYA Approved Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore, and VHF Marine Radio Courses & Other Training in Yeovil, Somerset

Established in 2010 and based in Yeovil, Somerset, Anstey James Training is a modern training provider specializes in Transport, First Aid, Marine, and SCC Training Courses. They aim to provide high quality training across a range of subjects and contexts. Anstey James is a RYA approved training center and provides RYA courses and Short-Wave Radio courses in South West England.

Anstey James is also a Qualsafe approved center delivering a range of Ofqual accredited First Aid courses including courses for the workplace, for schools, for early years settings and Activity First Aid. They are approved by JAUPT (Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training) and OCR (Oxford Cambridge and RSA) to deliver a range of transport courses and qualifications.

All Somerset County County transport-based training is now provided by Anstey James Ltd.

RYA Courses

• Essential Navigation & Seamanship Course (16 hours): It's a highly informative course with lots of opportunities for you to put your new-found knowledge into practice. If you decide to take the course online, you will find many interactive exercises to help reinforce the information and lots of chances to try out what you've learned.
• Day Skipper Shorebased (5 days): This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising. In conjunction with the UK Hydrographic Office the school has developed a chart plotter specifically for use on training courses, giving you a realistic insight into electronic navigation. Use of this plotter is an integral part of the Day Skipper shore-based course.
• Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore (6 days): This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills. Students in the southern hemisphere can take advantage of the southern hemisphere version of the training materials, ensuring that your course is relevant to you.
• RYA VHF Marine Radio (SRC) (9.5 hours): The Short-Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand-held equipment using International channels.
