Founded in 1972, Hennepin Technical College (HTC or Hennepin Tech) is a public technical school with two campuses in suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota and is a member of Minnesota State which is comprised of 37 colleges and universities in Minnesota. HTC awards Associate in Applied Sciences degrees, diplomas and certificates in over 45 programs. Most classes have a lab component and the lab is open for work during class hours and days.
With over 9,500 students are enrolled in credit courses and over 10,000 individuals have taken a Customized Training or Continuing Education course, Hennepin Technical College provides hands-on career and technical education for employment and advancement.
The average age of the student population is consistently in the low 30’s and most of them are considered part-time. HTC has a high job placement rate of 95%.
The two main campuses are comprised of 858,921 square feet of buildings on 208 acres. Hennepin Technical College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

- AAS Marine, Motorsport and Outdoor Power Equipment Technician (EP): HTC’s Marine, Motor Sports Technology program can help you move in the right direction. As a marine, motorsport, and outdoor power technician, you will troubleshoot and repair equipment found in the boating, Powersports, motorcycle, lawn and garden, and industrial engine industries. In this program, you will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience you need to move ahead.
- Diploma in Marine, Motorsport and Outdoor Power Equipment Technician (2 years): 64 credit Diploma Program. As a marine, motorsport and outdoor power technician, you will troubleshoot and repair equipment found in the boating, powersport, motorcycle, lawn and garden, and industrial engine industries. Program graduates are employed as Motorboat Mechanics and Service Technicians.
- Undergraduate Certificate in Outboard Technician (1 year): 30 credit Certificate program and the program graduates are employed as motorboat mechanics and service technicians.
- Undergraduate Certificate in Power Equipment (1 year): 30 credit Certificate program and program graduates are employed as motorboat mechanics and service technicians, and outdoor power equipment and other small engine mechanics.
- Undergraduate Certificate in General Maintenance Technician (1 year): 30 credit Certificate program and the program graduates are employed as outdoor power equipment and other small engine mechanics.
