Home to the nation's first supply chain program, the Whitman School of Management's supply chain management program is well attuned to the needs of this dynamic specialty. Established in 1919. the program is ranked 17th in Business Week (2010) and 15th in Princeton Review (2009). AMR Research (2009) ranks the program 9th overall and at the top in risk management.

Academic Programs



Undergraduate Program

  • BS in Supply Chain Management: The major in supply chain management builds on several of the curriculum's core courses, including finance, marketing management, and management information systems, to address topics of logistics, inventory control, risk sharing, supply chain planning, buyer-seller alliances, information flows, transportation, production management, and business-to-business marketing in global setting. Those who major in supply chain management must take two required courses and two major electives.

Graduate Program

  • MBA with Supply Chain Management Specialization (OnCampus & Online): The specialization in supply chain management builds on several of the curriculum's core courses, including finance, marketing management, and management information systems, to address topics of logistics, inventory control, risk sharing, supply chain planning, buyer-seller alliances, information flows, transportation, production management, and business-to-business marketing in global setting. Students must take two required courses and one elective.
  • MS in Supply Chain Management (OnCampus): The Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University is home to the nation’s premier supply chain management (SCM) program. Founded in 1919 as a specialization in traffic and transportation, it has evolved into a nationally renowned, innovative program that focuses on improving efficiencies in SCM while training graduates to make meaningful contributions in the marketplace.

PhD Program

  • PhD in Supply Chain Management: The goal of this interdisciplinary program is to develop both research and teaching skills, preparing its graduates for a successful academic career. Under the guidance of nationally recognized faculty, PhD students in supply chain management explore the foundations of economics, operations management, logistics, marketing, information technology, with the goal of producing a publishable research paper by the end of their second year of study.

  • SU Abroad: : About 50 percent of students who study at SU Abroad centers are Syracuse students. The rest come from over 150 schools and colleges across the U.S. About 100 of these schools have agreements with Syracuse that include tuition grants and pre-approved programs and courses.   • Career Services: The Whitman Career Center works in partnership with students to create a personalized career plan that integrates academic training with experiential learning and the acquisition of internship placements that sets students on the right path for achieving their career goals. On-boarding begins at the point of admissions with students tackling assignments that create awareness of their strengths, and the application of their experiences to their future goals. At orientation, students address assignments that continue to build a career plan that supports internship placement, selection of a concentration, and identification of experiential learning options The goal of these efforts is to provide students a holistic viewpoint of their career assets, and the development of lifetime career management skills.
  • Residence Life: There are two residential areas where first-year, transfer, and returning students live. Main Campus includes 18 residence halls and academic buildings. Residence halls and apartments are also located on South Campus, which is about a mile from Main Campus and is served by frequent, free shuttle buses. Returning students, transfer students, and graduate students typically live in South Campus residence halls and apartments.
  • Graduate Internships: Graduate internships provide opportunities for full-time MBA students to gain practical, professionally related experience. These opportunities integrate classroom instruction with activities in the business world. Internships may be for a semester full time, a semester part time, or a summer full time. Companies are asked to provide challenging project-related internships, which may be either paid or non-paid. The intern may combine academic credit with the experience by completing a three-credit independent research project under the direction of a faculty member.
