Established in 1996, Davis Marine Training provides training for license preparation and Coast Guard-approved Radar Observer courses. License training includes Western Rivers, Great Lakes, Inland, Near Coastal, and Oceans Deck and Engineer licenses. All student questions are answered in detail by certified instructors who hold Master licenses for both passenger and towing vessels.

Davis Marine Training provides instruction for up to one year or until your application expires, whichever occurs first and let each student go at his or her own pace. Also Davis marine works with students around the boat schedule if needed and need at least a week's notice to make a reservation for class.

Training Programs

License Courses

  • Steersman of Towing Vessels - Western Rivers (5-7 days): Includes the Coast Guard-approved Rules of the Road course, Mississippi Map Navigation, Navigation General, and General Deck, Safety and Environmental Protection.
  • Steersman of Towing Vessels - Great Lakes, Inland, and Western Rivers (10-20 days): Includes the Western Rivers course and Coast Guard-approved Rules of the Road, Chart Navigation, Navigation General and General Deck, Safety and Environmental Protection.
  • International and Inland Rules of the Road (16 hours): Coast Guard approved -Satisfies requirements for examination for towing licenses and any other deck license up to 200 gross tons.
  • 1600 Ton Master or Mate - Inland (10-20 days): Original or upgrade - Rules of the Road, Chart Navigation, Navigation General, General Deck Safety and Environmental Protection. Upgrading from a towing license only requires partial testing.
  • 1600 Ton Master or Mate - Western Rivers (10-15 days): Original or Upgrade - Rules of the Road, Mississippi Map Navigation, Navigation General, General Deck, Safety and Environmental Protection. Upgrading from a towing license only requires partial testing.
  • Engineer Licenses: Chief, Assistant, Designated Duty Engineer (DDE), Qualified Member of Engine Department (QMED) - Preparation for motors, steam, safety, electricity and general subjects.

Radar Courses

  • Radar Observer Unlimited: 5-Day course for radar observer upon any water - Required for Great Lakes, Near Coastal, and Oceans.
  • Radar Observer Inland: 4-Day course for radar observer upon waters other than Great Lakes that are subject to the Inland Rules of the Road - Required for Intracoastal Waterway.
  • Radar Observer Rivers: 3-Day course for radar observer upon any river not beyond the boundary line - Required for Western Rivers.
  • Radar Observer Recertification: 1-Day course to recertify any radar endorsement, including Unlimited.
  • Radar Observer Recertification (Inland): 1-Day course to recertify an Inland radar endorsement.
  • Radar Observer Recertification (Rivers): 1-Day course to recertify a Rivers radar endorsement.
