Established in 2013, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature after the consolidation of the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College, the University of Texas–Pan American and the UT Regional Academic Health Center - Harlingen. UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley at Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen, McAllen, Rio Grande City, South Padre Island in Texas.
UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
With more than 120 programs and 28,000 students, UTRGV offers 64 bachelors, 49 masters, and 4 doctoral programs in addition to 2 cooperative doctoral programs. The university is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The Graduate College at UTRGV offers world class educational experiences and convenient course offerings with campuses in Brownsville and Edinburg in sunny, tropical South Texas. Students can choose from online course formats to the traditional on-campus learning environment. In 2017, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has been ranked No. 6 (out of 56 Texas Universities) for lowest student loan debt in the state of Texas.

UTRGV Graduate Program
- MBA in International Trade (online): The MBA in International Trade offers a cross cultural education for business professionals looking to become global leaders. This program covers the foundation of marketing, finance and management disciplines in an international context. Coursework includes various pertinent elements in the global business environment, such as customs, trans-border operations and multicultural marketing. Other topics include law governing international sales and the shipment of goods and international intellectual property protection. UT Rio Grande Valley's 100% online accelerated graduate programs offer affordable tuition, and financial aid is available for those who qualify.
- Admission Requirements: Admission to the program is determined by the MBA Committee using all required admission documents, but a GMAT score of 400 and a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework in the United States are the general minimum criteria for unconditional admission. A person with four (4) years of professional experience in a mid-level or higher business position or a GPA of 3.8 can ask for waiver of GMAT.
Graduade Certificate Program
- Certificate in Customs and International Trade: This certificate is designed to provide those with a baccalaureate degree an enhanced level of knowledge in customs and international trade. It will provide graduates with the skillsets in this field to allow them to become more competitive in the global environment.
- Program Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a recognized international equivalent in a similar or related field. Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and If the applicant does not meet the minimum undergraduate GPA requirement of 3.0, GRE scores on the general test of 150 Verbal, 141 Quantitative, and 4.0 Analytical must be submitted. GRE test score is valid for 5 years. Official transcripts from each institution attended must be submitted directly to UTRGV. Minimum 3 years applicable experience is also required.
