RYA Sailing Courses from Start Yachting to Yachtmaster and Charter Holiday in Spain and Gibratar
Located in Alcaidesa Marina in the Spanish Side of the Straits of Gibraltar, Gib Sailing School, just short walk away from Gibraltar and just over one hour drive from Malaga and Jerez airport, provides a range of tidal sailing courses to cater for all levels from your first time sailing to Yachtmaster.
Alcaidesa Marina it is located in the Straits of Gibraltar situated just outside the border to Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean welcomes boaters, a prime location, indisputably the gateway to the Mediterranean. A unique natural enclave within the Gibraltar Bay, an ideal home port or stay in transit.
The aim is to provide hands on practical approach to sailing, navigation and boat maintenance on a well maintained fully equipped sail training yacht to ensure that all sailors attending a Gib Sailing School course have a memorable and enjoyable sailing experience combined with high quality instruction to suit each individual.
Courses take place in and around the Gibraltar Strait where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The area enjoys plenty of sunshine and good winds, sailing to different marinas, discovering interesting and challenging cruising grounds, most weeks we see dolphins and sometimes whales.
Training Programs
RYA Courses
- Start Yachting (2 days): A short introduction to sailing for complete beginners. You will be living on board a sailing yacht during the course.
- Competent Crew (5 days): This course is not only for beginners you will be learning important skills and techniques that will be the foundation of any future sailing courses.
- Day Skipper Practical (5 days): A course for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and basic navigation and sailing skills.
- Coastal Skipper Practical (5 days): Advanced skippering techniques for yachtsmen and women with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night.
- Yachtmaster Course: Yachtmaster preparation courses are normally skills and drills from 9.00 - 17.00 and some night sailing in Gibraltar Bay. Depending on your experience it can take up to five weeks Yachtmaster preparation before an exam.
- Yachtmaster Ocean: If you are wanting to experience Ocean Passages as crew, to build miles or to qualify for the RYA Ocean Passage using the sextant. These passages will be of at least 600 miles from Gibraltar to the Cannaries or Sardegna.
- RYA Diesel Engine Course (1 day); A one-day beginners’ course to help you prevent and solve diesel engine failure.
RYA Theory Online Courses
- Online RYA Skippers Online Theory Course: Gib Sailing offers the most dynamic online RYA courses which are delivered by Skippers online, specialized in online training. Your personal RYA shore-based course Instructor gives you support and tuition throughout. You sit the exam at home in your own time. Straightforward, narrated and animated, step-by-step instructions, incorporating regular quizzes and exercises, teach navigation, meteorology, the collision regulations, buoyage and safety at your own pace.
