Based in Gibraltar and Barcelona, Spain, Blue Oyster Sailing delivers training for Professional and Leisure Seafarers, Sailing Holidays, Charter Yachts and RYA Courses & intensive Fast Track Sailing Courses for students from around the world. The RYA Recognised Training Centre is based in Barcelona Palamos (for RYA Sail Cruising and RYA Power Boat) and Queensway Quay Gibraltar, Barcelona L’Escala and Barcelona Port Olimpic Spain (for Mile Building, Fast Track Training, Adventure Sailing, and RYA Qualifying Passages).
With RYA Instructors who have been working in the industry for many years, the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Instructors and RYA Cruising Instructors deliver RYA Power Boat and RYA Sail Training to suit every level. The school offers careers advice, CV preparation and references for all of the Intensive Training and Fast Track Students.
You can choose Fast Comfortable 48-foot Yachts from either of the bases Gibraltar or Barcelona and the Blue Oyster Sailing Mile Building and Fast Track Training from Gibraltar, they visit ports in Morocco, Portugal and Spain with the courses from Gibraltar are fully inclusive all meals on board.
Training Programs
RYA Practical Courses
- RYA Powerboat 1&2 (Barcelona Palamos Spain): Blue Oyster Sailing RYA Level 1 and 2 Powerboat and ICC delivered from Barcelona Palamos Spain. RYA Power Boat Training delivered in the warm sunshine over one or two days with direct assessments.
- RYA Start Sailing (Barcelona Palamos Spain - 2 days): Start sailing course is delivered from Barcelona Palamos Spain. A great introduction to life on a Yacht no previous experience required.
- RYA Competent Crew (Barcelona Palamos Spain): Five Day Live Aboard Course Monday to Friday all year board Sundays disembark Fridays. No previous experience required.
- RYA Day Skipper (Barcelona Palamos Spain): A five-day liveaboard Practical Course. Previous experience RYA Competent Crew and RYA Day Skipper Theory.
- RYA Coastal Skipper 9 Barcelona Palamos Spain): RYA Coastal Skipper Advanced Practical Course 5 Days. Previous experience RYA Day Skipper and RYA Coastal Skipper Theory.
- RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Prep (Barcelona Palamos Spain): Yachtmaster Prep 5 Days from Barcelona Palamos Spain.Under the professional tuition of a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor you will be coached to meet the exacting requirements of the RYA Examiner during the week
- RYA Yachtmaster Ocean (Gibraltar and Barcelona): To be examined for your RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate which can be used towards your MCA Master of Yachts Unlimited Cert you will need to have completed a 600-mile non-stop passage as either the Skipper or First Mate. You must also hold RYA Yachtmaster Offshore.
- International Certificate of Competence (ICC): The ICC is issued by the RYA after a practical and oral examination covering basic navigation and sailing skills. Offers this training and assessment from the Palamos Base to the north of Barcelona. A half Day Test or 2 Days of coaching and assessment by a RYA Instructor.
- RYA Fasttrack Day Skipper (Barcelona Palamos Spain): Fast Track BOS RYA Day Skipper continuous training for 14 days live aboard includes RYA Competent Crew, RYA Day Skipper Theory, RYA Day Skipper Practical with optional International Certificate of Competence.
Master of Yacht Courses (STCW)
- Master 200GT Limited / OOW 500GT (6 days): Training for Master (Code vessels less than 200gt not more than 150miles from a safe haven) / Officer of the Watch (Yacht less than 500gt).
- Master 200GT Unlimited / OOW 500GT Unlimited (6 days): Training for Master (Code vessels less than 200gt unlimited area) / Officer of the Watch (Yacht less than 500gt).
