Established in 1989 and located at the Galician city of A Coruña in Spain, University of A Coruña (Universidade da Coruña - UDC) is a public university which imparts cultural, scientific, technological and professional knowledge through the development of research and teaching. The university schools and departments are divided between two primary campuses in A Coruña and nearby Ferrol.

The A Coruña campus is spread over three suburbs on the outskirts of A Coruña - Elviña and Zapateira and Oza. Part of its mission is the formation of an open, critical, democracy and solidarity citizenship, capable of analyzing reality, diagnose problems, formulate and implement solutions based in knowledge and oriented to the common good.

Higher Technical School of Nautical and Machinery is located at Paseo de Ronda and offers academic and professional training of people entitled in Navigation, Maritime Transportation and Naval Machinery and its origins in A Coruña date back to the 16th century. The programs are conducted in a mix of Galician and English languages.

Academic & Training Programs


Undergraduate Programs

  • Bachelor Degree Naval and Ocean Engineering (Over 40% in English, 4 years): The Degree provides education and access to practical training on board ships for professions such as Engineering Officer on board a commercial ship. The existence of two specialties – Marine Engineering  & Ocean Engineering - allows you either choose your career aboard ship or choose a career in other industries.
  • Bachelor Degree in Nautical Engineering and Maritime Transport (Subjects in English are available, 4 years): The studies of the Degree in Nautical Engineering and Maritime Transport have a scientific-technological nature and give access to the exercise, on board ships, the professions of the pilot and captain of the merchant navy. The existence of two specialties allows you to orientate your vocation not only to a career in the merchant marine, but also to other activities of the maritime sector.

Postgraduate Programs

  • Masters Degree In Marine Engineering (60 ECTS): The objective of these studies is to develop the necessary scientific-technical training for the commissioning and maintenance of the ship propulsion systems and facilities such as installation testing,  energy optimization, maintenance, repair and redesign.
  • Masters Degree in Nautical Engineering and Maritime Transport (60 ECTS): The Master's Degree in Nautical Engineering and Maritime Transport has the objective of specific training in the field of technological, legal or business development in the field of maritime business. The courses include advanced training in management techniques, security and protection, maneuvering and navigation, business management, marine inspections, also allowing an orientation towards the studies of PhD and research.
