Founded in 2018 and located in Santa Ponsa, Spain, Purser Trainer is a fully online training center and one of only three IAMI GUEST approved purser program training providers. Purser Trainer teaches you everything you need to know to successfully become a purser aboard a superyacht or larger vessel. An autonomous position, the purser reports directly to the captain and ensures the smooth operation of the administrative aspects in running a yacht.

A purser plays a vital role in the smooth operation of a yacht, primarily handling administrative responsibilities and guest services. Their duties include managing finances, overseeing budgets, and maintaining financial records, as well as controlling inventory for supplies and provisions. They ensure guest satisfaction by attending to their needs, coordinate crew schedules and assignments for efficient operations, and serve as a communication link between the yacht’s management, crew, and guests. Additionally, the purser manages essential documentation, including legal permits and operational paperwork, all of which contribute to a seamless and enjoyable experience onboard.

The typical progression to the role is from a chief steward/ess; however, other senior roles may be considered. Consideration is also given to those who wish to switch from a land-based role in villa management, crew recruitment, luxury hospitality management and crew training.

Upon completion of the entire course, students will receive an International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI) GUEST Certificate of Completion from Purser Trainer. The Yacht Purser Modules are available individually and as a full curriculum package. Only upon successful completion of the full course, will the accredited certificate be issued.

Yacht Purser Course

• Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 25 years old, fluent in written and spoken English, and have a minimum of two years in a senior yacht position or luxury hospitality/villa management. A CV is required to verify experience and eligibility.
• Module 1 - Purser Crew Course: This module will provide you with an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Yacht Purser and provide tools to implement, organise, and manage the Purser administrations and secretarial duties. Crew related issues will be addressed to include contracts, insurance and visas.
• Module 2 - Port Clearance Course: This module will provide you with an understanding of how to implement, organise and manage Port Clearance Procedures.
• Module 3 - Purser Maritime Course: This module is designed to give you an understanding of the Maritime Structure, Conventions and codes. Understanding of the role & control of Flag States, compliance and Port State Control.
• Module 4 - Purser Financial Management Course: This module will provide you with an understanding of the importance of accurate financial management. Basic accounting principles, purchase orders, bookkeeping, budgeting, account plans, reporting and VAT.
• Module 5 - Purser Charter Course: This module will provide an understanding of the charter process, agreements and accounts involved, along with the social aspects, communication & cultural differences.
• Module 6 - Voly Software: This module will provide you with an understanding of the Voly accounting platform. The system is designed to meet the requirements of yacht owners and family offices, management companies and users.
• Module 7 - Deep Blue Management Software: This module will provide you with a good understanding of this fully integrated management software program.
• Module 8 - Purser Destination Management Course: Within this module, you will gain an understanding of the importance of thorough research and reconnaissance; ways to present information to guests; the logistics involved with guest arrival and on-going guest well-being.
• Module 9 - Total SuperYacht Software: Within this module you will gain familiarity of this software which uses a modern interface to make ISM (International Safety Management) reporting seamless and easy.

Mental Health & Wellbeing Course

• IAMI GUEST Accredited Mental Health & Wellbeing Course for Yacht Crew: This course is designed for yacht crew, recruitment agents, management companies, and anyone responsible for the welfare of crew members. Through a 6-hour live online training session, participants will learn how to navigate mental health challenges and support fellow crew members onboard.
