The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is an internationally recognized maritime and marine tertiary education institution based in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia and is part of the University of Tasmania (UTAS). AMC is Australia's national center for maritime education, training and research. It has two campuses located within 31 miles of each other in Northern Tasmania, each with different facilities and residence.

Ocean seafarers have the opportunity to travel the world working on large international vessels such as passenger liners, tankers and bulk Cargo carriers and offshore vessels in the oil and gas industry. The programs integrate professional short courses with training at sea so the students receive not only a Bachelor degree but also an Australian Maritime Authority (AMSA) Certificate of Competency (CoC).

Seafaring students must gain employment as a trainee marine deck or engineer officer with a shipping company in order to obtain the required qualifying sea service and complete on the job AMSA requirements. Employment may be sought either before or after Year 1 studies (also known as pre-sea training). On completion of their second year, students who wish or need to exit from their studies will be awarded the Advanced Diploma of Marine Engineering if they have met the requirements for the award.
