Bridge and Engine Resource Management Training & Specialized Training for Liquefied Gas Tankers in Antwerp

Located in Antwerp Belgium, Exmar Academy is ISO 9001 certified by Lloyd’s Register and provides STCW 2010 and Maritime Courses. Exmar’s trainers bring your crew the benefit of technical and management expertise combined with know-how and experience gained on a diversified fleet of gas tankers and specialized offshore units. The core of EXMAR Academy’s offer currently consists of Maritime Crew Resource Management training and Specialized Training for Liquefied Gas Tankers.

The trainers are experts in both topics as these programs have been mandatory for all Exmar Ship Management deck officers and staff engineers and recommended for all other engineers for many years. For courses including simulation exercises Exmar cooperate with Marine Training Center (MTC) Hamburg using sophisticated simulations and training facilities. Exmar also partners with Antwerp Maritime Academy for educational and simulation training.

In 2017 EXMAR Ship Management reached an agreement with Ahlers to create a joint venture, integrating its own training division EXMAR Academy into Ahler’s Bureau International Maritime (BIM). This is combined with knowhow and experience gained on a diversified fleet of LNG and LPG carriers, floating storage and regasification units, and specialized offshore accommodation units.

Training Programs

STCW Maritime Training

  • Maritime Crew Resource Management (MCRM) Training (3.5 days): MCRM is a course designed to develop positive attitudes to communication and management skills. In addition, it aims to generate a common vocabulary which facilitates the dialogue about human behavior and skills. It also provides tools that can be employed in the operative environment to stimulate the desired behavior. MCRM program is certified by DNV against the STCW 2010 amendments for mandatory Bridge and Engine Resource Management training at the operational and management levels.
  • Specialized Training for Liquefied Gas Tankers (5 days): This course is a training program for safety and operations on liquefied gas tankers, including the properties of gases and types of gas carriers, operational practices and obligations under applicable laws and regulations, fire safety measures and systems and pollution prevention and control. The mandatory minimum training requirements are indicated by regulation A-V/1-2 of STCW 2010.
  • Basic Training For Operations of Gas Fuelled Ships (2 days): The basic training is for all seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use or in emergency response to the fuel on board ships subject to the IGF Code, satisfying Section A-V/3 – paragraph 1 of the STCW Code, referred to as the ’Basic IGF Training’
  • Advanced Training For Operations of Gas Fuelled Ships (3 days): This is an advanced training for Masters, engineer officers and all personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuels and fuel systems on ships subject to the IGF code, satisfying section A-V/3 – paragraph 2 of the STCW Code, referred to as the ‘Advanced IGF Training’.
