Located at Antwerp Belgium, IMCS Training Academy provides Specialized training courses for ship managers, shipyard personnel, surveyors, consultants, inspectors, repairers, Class surveyors and other industry professionals. IMCS Training Academy is part of the IMCS Group which was founded in 2001 as an umbrella organization between the different IMCS companies, streamlining survey and reporting standards and improving professionalism through an in-house quality system, training programs, seminars and Group meetings.

The IMCS Training Academy will help you face the challenges of field work in an increasing competitive and demanding maritime market. Throughout the training, and by using various training techniques such as CBT, workshops, simulation and mock scenarios, the candidate’s embedded knowledge will be lifted to a higher level. The highly qualified instructors possess a wealth of practical experience which allows them to provide a holistic view on a specific subject and make complexity simple.

People joining the training courses and passing the assessment are entitled to become a member of the IMCS Training Academy Club. By joining the club, they will have the possibility to exchange views, discuss problems with colleagues and peers on line and as such be able to get the best advice and/or answer to their problems.

Training Programs

Hatch Cover Courses

  • Hatch Cover Course - Level 1 (organized by SDT International) (2 days, French - English): Preparing operators of SDT ultrasonic tightness testing equipment to carry out tightness inspections in line with good practice and IACS UR Z17 requirements for class service suppliers - this requires delegates to have basic knowledge about hatch covers, their maintenance, operation, repairs as well as theoretical and practical training with SDT class type approved equipment.
  • Masterclass Hatch Covers (2 days, English): During the course, you will expand your knowledge on hatch covers, enabling you to apply in day-to-day ship operations. You will obtain a more profound knowledge and understanding on a wide variety of hatch cover related subjects and practical approach to hatch cover repairs.

Cargo Related Courses

  • Lashing & Securing Course (2 days): Understanding key issues related to lashing & securing of general Cargo; relevant rules & regulations, selection of the right vessel, importance of good stowage, principals of lashing & securing including all relevant securing methods, lifting of the cargo and warranty surveys. At the end of the course, all participants will have a deep understanding of not only lashing & securing but also all closely related subjects.
  • Stability for Surveyors & Supercargoes (2 days, English): Understanding the importance of stability, being able to integrate stability issues in cargo planning, surveys & casualty investigations, checking the ship’s stability calculations, ship specific stability issues, assisting and advising ship’s staff with stability issues, casualty stability, and more.
  • Steel Preloading Course - From Steel Mill to Receiver (2 days): Acquiring general knowledge about transport of steel cargoes and related issues; such as manufacturing process of steel, pre-loading condition & inspection of steel products, hatch cover basics and hatch cover testing, cargo worthiness issues, clausing of M/R - B/L, loading and stowing of steel cargoes as well as loss prevention and mitigation and more.

Ship Inspection Courses

  • Ship Inspection Course (3 days, English): Practical workshop to provide delegates with hands-on experience when carrying out ship inspections, identifying defects and understanding why they are defects, identifying hazards/risks linked to deficiencies, organizing inspections, reporting to principals, familiarizing with soft skills related to ship inspections.

Maritime Law Courses

  • Maritime Law Course (2 days, English): To raise awareness and obtain a more profound understanding of legal issues and challenges in the maritime industry. Also to adopt a hands-on and practical approach when being faced with legal issues during surveys and interventions on board ship and to provide best possible advice to principals and shipboard staff.

Crew Development Courses

  • Crew Motivation & Development (1 day, English): The course aims to assess the developmental needs of the crew; manage, mentor and motivate the staff on board; mold the on-board crew into a sound team; contribute to the improvement of the quality of the company’s staff portfolio by providing fact based solid feedback; and more.

IMDG Courses

  • IMDG Training Course (2 days, English): Acquiring general knowledge about shipments of packed dangerous cargo and the use/structure of the IMDG Code - including classification, packing, securing, segregation, documentation, marking, labelling, stowage, risks and EMY management - being able to audit a dangerous cargo shipment and more.
