Self-paced Online Career Training Certification Program in Maritime Law (Dry & Wet Shipping) and Marine Insurance
marinEd was established in Hamburg with support from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the German Federal Employment Agency to provide relevant online education, skills development and information that improves shoreside awareness for seafarers who are transitioning from ship-to-shore globally.
The certification program in Maritime Law and Marine Insurance is self-paced courses with access of one year to complete the program. The program includes Maritime Law (Wet Shipping), Maritime Law (Dry Shipping) and Marine Insurance.
Maritime Law (Wet Shipping) looks at liens, including maritime liens, possessory liens, and equitable liens. The course also looks into collisions liabilities, regulations and apportionment of liability. The other area of focus in the course is salvage and looks at at what is salvage, principle and subject matter of salvage, elements of salvage, salvage laws, regulations and conventions.
Maritime Law (Dry Shipping) covers the most important areas of dry law and looks at Bills of Lading, which is considered to be the most important document in the Carriage of Goods by sea. The other topics include - common law undertakings, the reasons behind Hague, and Hague/Visby Rules, voyage charterparties, time charterparties, and maritime arbitration.
Marine Insurance analyses the nature of Marine Insurance and what is insurable interest for the purposes of a marine insurance contract. It also includes the topics such as the perils of the sea and what constitutes as perils of the sea, the Marine Insurance Act and the principles of marine insurance. Average and general average are covered as well as indemnity and third-party liability. The course also includes Cargo insurance and cargo and time clauses, policies and stand-alone Institute cargo clauses. Claims are also examined and the concepts of actual total loss, constructive total loss and compromised total loss are explained.
