OPITO Certified BOSIET for Renewable Energy (Wind) Full Access or Limited Access for Personnel Who Wish to Work in the Offshore Wind Sector

The OPITO BOSIET for Renewable Energy (Wind) training, is designed to meet the initial offshore safety and emergency response training requirements for personnel with full or limited access to offshore Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) and associated areas and environment.

Full Access encompasses access to and from the vessel operating at the WTG site offshore, for construction, service, crew transfer, and, access to the offshore foundation including transition piece, jacket, platform, tower and turbine nacelle.


Limited Access encompasses access only to and from the vessel operating at the WTG site offshore, for construction, service, crew transfer and, access only to the offshore foundation including transition piece, jacket or platform.

These trainings are aimed at those who are new or returning to the offshore wind industry and require a theoretical understanding of the key health and safety aspects of offshore wind operations, and provides learners with an opportunity to learn the basic skills required to travel and work safely, and respond to an emergency situation in the offshore wind environment.

  • Emergency First Aid
  • Manual Handling

The Training Objectives

  • Understand the generic hazards which are specific to wind industry sites and installations, potential risks associated with those hazards, and how controls are put in place to eliminate or reduce risks
  • Understand key offshore related safety regulations and explain the basic safety management concepts
  • Understand and demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that they can use the safety equipment, including that for Working at Height with a focus on vertical ladders and an awareness of different ladder types
  • Understand and demonstrate sea survival, safe transfer, first aid, and manual handling techniques
  • Understand and demonstrate that they can effectively use basic firefighting equipment, and practice self-rescue techniques in low visibility situations, to include smoke filled areas
