Founded in 1972 with main campus in Virginia Beach, Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) is a two year coed technical school and offers associate, diploma, and certificate programs in Automotive Technology, HVAC and Refrigeration, Diesel/Heavy Vehicle Technology, Welding, and Tractor-Trailer/Commercial Driving.

ATI is NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation)/ASE Master Certified, ACCSC accredited, approved for Veterans, and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Advanced Technology Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).

Advanced Technology Institute also offers graduate employment services and financial aid is available for those who qualify. Similar courses can be transferred from accredited institutes with a minimum course grade of C and should be passed within the last 7 years along with Advance placement (AP) credits, CLEP and DANTES credits.

Degree Programs (Maritime Technical & Management)

  • Associate in Occupational Science (AOS) Degree in Maritime Welding with Service Management: The AOS degree program offers core training in the practical aspects of construction and repair of equipment and structures built with steel. In addition to structural skills, students will learn to weld pipe in multiple positions. Instruction is presented in both classroom and laboratory using modern welding equipment and tools. Students gain hands-on experience in a realistic shop setting where they must demonstrate specific proficiencies. Program content provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level employment as a combination structural and pipe welder.
  • The Service Management coursework provides students with a strong foundation in business management, customer service, communications skills, employee relations, inventory management as well as understanding business financial reports. Students with Service Management Skills may have the ability to advance more rapidly in the workforce or choose to start and manage their own business. Program is available at the Main Campus, and Virginia Beach Campus.

Diploma Programs (Maritime Technical)

  • Diploma in Maritime Welding Technology (55 weeks - 44 Credits): The Maritime Welding Technology diploma program offers training in the practical aspects of construction and repair of equipment and structures built with steel. In addition to structural skills, students will learn to weld pipe in multiple positions. Instruction is presented in both classroom and laboratory using modern welding equipment and tools. Students gain hands-on experience in a realistic shop setting where they must demonstrate specific proficiencies. Emphasis is placed on safety and standard procedures followed in ship yards and repair facilities. This program prepares students for entry-level employment as a combination structural and pipe welder. Program is available at the Main Campus, and Virginia Beach Campus.
