Established in 2010, the Aalto University is a new university with centuries of experience. The Aalto University was created from the merger of three Finnish universities: The Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and The University of Art and Design Helsinki. Aalto University School of Science and Technology has been divided into four new schools. The six schools of Aalto University are all leading and renowned institutions in their respective fields and in their own right.

Aalto University offers the highest level of education in economics, art and design, and technology in Finland. By merging Finland’s premier business, technology, and art and design universities, the resulting institution, Aalto University, envisions a future that is international, multi-disciplinary, and full of opportunities. Aalto University provides a wide range of international Master’s programs which are taught entirely in English.

Aalto University has three main campuses all located in the Helsinki Metropolitan area: the School of Economics is in the heart of the city (Töölö), the School of Art and Design is a short distance north of the city center (Arabia), and the School of Science and Technology is about a fifteen minute drive west of the city in Otaniemi, Espoo. In addition to the three major campuses, Aalto University also has units operating in different cities around Finland: in Mikkeli, Lahti, Vaasa and Pori.

Academic Programs

Master Degree - Logistics

  • Masters Program in Information and Service Management with Specialization in Logistics and Service Management (English, 2 years): The Master’s Program in Information and Service Management (ISM) (Awarded Degree - Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration) gives you in-depth expertise in developing and managing information-based services. The interdisciplinary program has a strong emphasis on data analysis and project management. The skills you learn will help you analyze the ever-growing supply of information, as well as manage new technologies and electronic business operations. Logistics and Service Management focus helps you learn how to manage and develop companies’ complex logistics chains in the network economy.

Masters Degree - Maritime Engineering

  • Nordic Master in Maritime Engineering (NMME) (English, 2 years): The Nordic Master in Maritime Engineering is based on the expertise of the participating universities within naval architecture, offshore engineering and maritime engineering. The program targets international students wishing to profit from the Nordic Five Tech universities' long standing tradition and competence in the field and Nordic students wishing to specialize in a specific area of expertise offered within the alliance. The education is based on first principles within design, construction and operation of ship and offshore structures, including hydrostatics and stability, hydrodynamics, wave and wind loads and structural analyses. The teaching comprises lectures, assignments, workshops and project work. Theory is supported by experimental work and computer simulations are used intensively.
  • Member institutions of Nordic Five Tech: Aalto University, Chalmers University of Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
  • Aalto University Study Track - Passenger Ships: Aalto University’s study track in the program focuses on passenger ships. This study track gives a comprehensive overview of the different aspects related to the design, analysis and optimization of passenger ships. Studies cover both basic knowledge as well as the application of risk-assessment methods in ship design.
