Established in 1990 and located in Traverse City, Michigan, the Northwest Regional Fire Training Center (NWRTC) is a premier facility dedicated to enhancing Firefighting skills and emergency response capabilities in the region. NWRTC offers a wide range of training programs and hands-on exercises, equipping firefighters and emergency personnel with the knowledge and experience necessary to respond effectively to various emergencies.
The center provides the region with essential classrooms, burn buildings, a training tower, and specialized service areas to meet the educational requirements of both urban and rural emergency responders. Its staff includes a combination of volunteer and paid certified fire service instructors. Additionally, NWRTC is a state-licensed proprietary school, approved to offer initial EMS education up to the EMT level.

Maritime Courses
- USCG Combined Basic & Advanced Fire Fighting: Any applicant who successfully completes the Combined Basic & Advanced Fire Fighting (NOWRTC-125) course will fulfill several important requirements. First, they will meet the standards for Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting as outlined in STCW Code Section A-V1/1. Second, they will satisfy the criteria for Advanced Fire Fighting according to STCW Code section A-VI/3.
