The recruitment of Cadets takes place at various time of the year; the main intakes are either September or January. Cadets have the opportunity to gain solid qualifications, which can be utilized in the Marine Industry both at sea or ashore. The work experience gained is wide, varied and rewarding.

Training & Career Programs

British Cadet Training

  • HND (Higher National Diploma): Qualifications achieved at the end of the training, Higher National Diploma in Nautical Studies or Marine Engineering and an Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency, STCW ’95 II/1 or STCW ’95 III/1. Entry Requirement - At least 4 GCSE or Scottish Standard grades at level B or 2 in Maths, Physics or Combined Science, English Language and one other subject.
  • Foundation Degree (England) or Professional Diploma (Scotland): Qualifications achieved at the end of the training, a Foundation Degree or Scottish Professional Diploma in either Marine Vessel Operations or Marine Engineering and an Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency STCW ’95 II/1 or STCW ’95 III/1. This route has the advantage that it can enable an Officer to further their academic studies to Hons Degree level. Entry Requirement - 120 UCAS points in unspecified "A" levels or Scottish Highers. Good GCSEs/ Scottish Standard grades in English, Maths and Physics (or Dual/Combined Science).
  • Colleges: The following Colleges undertake Cadet training - Fleetwood Nautical Campus (Deck Cadets only); Glasgow College of Nautical Studies; South Tyneside College; and Warsash Maritime Academy.
