USCG Approved Online, Blended and Other Maritime and STCW Training Programs for Training Providers in the U.S. and Worldwide
Headquartered in Wilton, Connecticut, Learn America is an online training provider and provides US maritime education and training bring blended and online courses that are aligned to CFR and NVIC standards, approved by the United States Coast Guard. Learn America is also partnering with the American Bureau of Shipping to bring ABS-approved courses to the industry professionals.
They help create a blended curriculum for on-campus instructions, including obtaining site and instructor approvals for delivery of the blended/online courses. Learn America’s learning portal encourages peer/educator collaboration through the use of video or electronic communication.
Learn America is a US Coast Guard approved training organization. They are authorized to run Coast Guard accredited training programs and, upon successful completion of each course, to issue certificates of completion under the authority of the Coast Guard. Learn America’s courses, curricula, learning platform and blended training methodologies have all been approved by the USCG.
Learn America has also been approved by the NY State Education Department to run an online Maritime Academy as well as to provide professional training. Through its global associations, Learn America continues to partner with higher education institutions around the world.
Training Programs
STCW Safety Courses
- First Aid/ CPR (Blended): First Aid/CPR is a required course for a seafarer to be employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship as part of the ship’s complement with designated duties in the operation of the ship.
- Personal Survival Techniques (Blended): This course combines an online program offering theoretical lessons and in-water training to teach candidates the necessary actions and survival techniques to ensure safety during an emergency evacuation/ abandonment from a vessel or offshore facility.
- Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (Online): This online course, one of the four courses that make-up the Basic Training suite, is designed to teach personnel the proper actions to take while executing their shipboard duties to ensure their own personal safety, the safety of fellow crewmembers and to protect the marine environment.
- Basic Fire Fighting (Blended): This course, offered as a blended program, is designed to teach - The importance of fire prevention; The actions to take upon discovering a fire; and Self-protection with existing Firefighting equipment.
- Basic Training (Blended): BST or BT is the legal minimum requirement for anyone looking for commercial work aboard vessels over 24 meters, including Superyachts and Cruise ships. This certificate is also colloquially known as STCW Card by new aspirants in the United States.
- Combined Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting (Blended): This course, offered in a blended or hybrid format, is designed to train seafarers in minimizing risk, maintaining state of readiness, and extinguishing shipboard fires.
- Security Training for Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD) (Online): This course will help candidates to demonstrate sufficient knowledge to undertake the duties assigned under the VSP.
- Vessel Security Officer (VSO) (Online): The Vessel Security Officer (VSO) course will satisfy the following: - training requirements of 33 CFR 104.215(d)(1)(iv), and - STCW Code section A-VI/5 for an STCW endorsement as Vessel Security Officer.
- Leadership & Managerial Skills (Online): Leadership and Managerial Skills is an online course designed to provide candidate necessary training to meet the requirements of STCW Endorsements of Master or Chief Mate on Vessels of 3,000 GT.
