Commercial Vessel & Pleasure Boat Licensing Programs for Masters and Engine Drivers and other Maritime Training Courses in Malta
Established in 2015 and located at Mosta in Malta, Nautical Marine Malta is a Maltese company offering professional and holistic service to boat and superyacht owners. Headquartered at Xagħra, Gozo Region in Malta, the company also provides maritime, health and safety educational courses leading to a certificate of competency.
The company also offers pre-purchase survey reports, underwater inspection services, licensed skippers, engineers and deckhands with experience, maritime consultation, and is also an appointed Government Surveyors; they are licensed to conduct survey reports leading to certification and registration with Transport Malta for Personal Crafts and Commercial Vessels.
Nautical Marine Malta also conducts private charter trips to Gozo and Comino. They also have an emergency response unit in place, ready to assist persons encountering difficulty on a 24/7 basis. The rescue boat is designed to tolerate adverse weather and its engine power will ensure that it is well capable to handle a tow and bring the boat and its passengers to safety.
Training Programs
Deck Courses
- Basic Seamanship and Safe Boat Handling (Nautical License Course): Provides training to persons wanting to skipper a pleasure boat of up to 24m in length within Maltese territorial waters with no restriction on horsepower.
- Recreational Skipper - Mediterranean Sea: This course aims to give trainees the essential education and training to skipper a pleasure yacht less than 24 metres in length overall and up to 35 Nm from safe haven within the Mediterranean Sea, without any restriction on engine/s horsepower.
- Commercial Vessel Mate & Master (combined): This course is designed and specified for delegates who want to obtain a qualification to serve as Master on a commercial vessel of 50 metres in length and over. This certificate does not include an engineering qualification. Applicants who intend to act as both Master and Engineer on a commercial vessel will need to hold an appropriate Engineer/Engine Driver certificate.
- Commercial Vessel Boatmaster Grade 1: This course is designed and specified for delegates who want to obtain a license to serve as Master on a commercial vessel of less than 24 meters in length within Ports, Internal and Territorial waters of Malta. This certificate does not include an engineering qualification. Applicants who intend to act as both Master and Engineer of a vessel 12-24 meters will need to hold an appropriate Engine Driver certificate.
- Commercial Vessel Boatmaster Grade II: This course is designed and specified for delegates who want to obtain a dual qualification to act as Master and/or Engineer of vessels less than 12 metres in length and with engines up to 350 kW within Ports, Internal and Territorial waters of Malta.
- Commercial Vessel Boatman: Provides applicants with a dual qualification to act as Master and/or Engineer of vessels less than 10 meters in length, capable of carrying up to 12 passengers within the Territorial Waters of Malta.
- Commercial General Purpose Hand: Provides training to persons wanting to work on-board commercial vessels trading within Maltese Territorial Waters as a General Purpose Hand.
- VHF Short-Range Certificate: This course is designed and specified for delegates who wish to obtain a qualification to operate a VHF with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) capabilities on any Maltese register vessel. This includes both fixed and hand-held equipment using International Channels.
Engine Courses
- Commercial Vessel Engineer: To provide applicants with a qualification to serve as an Engineer on a commercial vessel of 1,500kW (2039hp) and over, within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta.
- Engine Driver Grade 2: Provides applicants with a qualification to serve as Engine Driver on a commercial vessel of less than 750kW (1005.7hp), within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta. The training course consists of multiple elements developed to impart knowledge and understanding and competence to participate as an Engineer on commercial vessels of less than 750kW within the Maltese internal and territorial waters.
- Engine Driver Grade 3: Provides applicants with a qualification to serve as Engine Driver on a commercial vessel of less than 500kW (670.5hp), within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta. The training course consists of multiple elements developed to impart knowledge and understanding and competence to participate as an Engineer on commercial vessels of less than 500kW within the Maltese internal and territorial waters.
- Marine Outboard Engine Operator/ Maintenance: To provide training to persons wanting to be able to perform simple engine maintenance tasks, helping to extend the life and preserve the condition of the engine. This course will offer a basic understanding of the operation and maintenance of an outboard motor.
