Established in 1990 and located in Paola, Malta, AOST Academy is a division of AOST Technology and provides a suite of integrated logistics solutions for the Shipping and Oil and Gas sectors, with a special focus on Europe, Middle East and Africa. AOST is long standing members of the Energy Institute, MOIG and ISCO.
The AOST Academy organizes a wide range of courses related to oil & gas operations, shipping and seafaring and these are held regularly in Malta, Greece and Tunisia. AOST trained most oilfield personnel for companies operating in Libya and Tunisia and nominated oilfield personnel to attend training courses held in Malta by AOST. They have certified training facilities in Valletta Harbor (Malta), Sfax (Tunisia) and Piraeus (Greece).
AOST Academy has also teamed up with OSRA International to offer courses in environmental protection. Our training programs are fully recognized by the national maritime and environmental authorities.
Training Programs
Seamanship Programs & Licenses
- Basic Seamanship and Safe Boat Handling (Nautical License) (24 hours): Get the training you need to obtain a Nautical Driving License from Transport Malta. You need a license to operate any private pleasure craft of 30Hp and over. The License issued is limited to the ports, and territorial waters of Malta.
- General Purpose Hand (16 hours): Can crew any commercial vessel as a General Purpose Hand in accordance with the manning requirements within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta.
- Boatman (40 hours): Dual qualification to act as Master and/or Engineer of vessels less than 10 meters, capable of carrying 12 passengers or less within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta.
- Boatmaster Grade 1 (40 hours): Qualification to serve as Master on a commercial vessel of less than 24 meters in length within ports, internal and territorial waters of Malta. This certificate does not include an engineering qualification.
- Boatmaster Grade 2 (34 hours): Dual qualification to act as Master and/or Engineer of vessels less than 12 meters in length and with engines up to 250 kW.
- Engine Driver Grade 2 (29 hours): Qualification to serve as Engine Driver on a commercial vessel of less than 750 KW.
- Engine Driver Grade 3 (20 hours): Qualification to serve as Engine Driver on a commercial vessel of less than 500 KW.
- Recreational Skipper - Mediterranean Sea (24 hours): This course aims to give trainees the essential education and training to skipper a pleasure yacht less than 24 meters in length overall and up to 35 Nm from safe haven within the Mediterranean Sea, without any restriction on engine/s horsepower.
- VHF-SRC (2 days): This course covers the minimum training recommended for operators on sea crafts fitted with VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC). This VHF Short Range Radio Operator’s Course (SRC) has replaced the VHF Operator’s Certificate.
