Transport Malta Approved Nautical License, RYA Powerboat & ICC Programs, and STCW Training in Malta
Located in Swatar, Malta, the Malta Sailing Academy is Malta’s leading Royal Yacht Association (RYA) accredited sea school, specializing in RYA sailing and motor courses. The academy is also an approved Transport Malta training center for maritime courses.

Training Programs
Transport Malta Approved Courses
- Transport Malta Nautical License: The Transport Malta Nautical License is required by Maltese citizens and foreign residents living on the island. It allows the holder to operate a vessel (powerboat, sailing vessel, or Jet ski) with a combined horsepower of 30Hp or over and up to 24m in length in Maltese Territorial Waters only (12 Nautical Miles). The course consists of both theory and practical components.
RYA Training Programs
- RYA Powerboat Level 2: This basic course provides the fundamental skills needed to handle a powerboat. After this course, you should be self-sufficient in handling and maneuvering a powerboat while being aware of your limitations.
- International Certificate of Competence (ICC): The International Certificate of Competence is issued by the RYA after a practical and oral examination covering basic navigation, seamanship, and handling. It is very useful for skippers cruising in foreign waters, particularly if you are skippering a foreign-flagged vessel.
STCW Courses
- STCW Basic Training Full Course: The STCW Basic Safety Training course (STCW95 & STCW 2010) is the legal minimum requirement for anyone looking for commercial work aboard vessels over 24 meters, in accordance with the STCW Code A-VI/1.
- STCW Basic Training Refresher : The course runs over two and a half days and is assessed via continual practical assessment with theory-based examinations. Students will cover all four modules of the STCW Basic Training Course.
- Security Awareness: The Proficiency in Security Awareness (STCW code Reg A-VI/6-1) training is run over one day and is assessed by continual practical assessment and a theory-based assessment and provides knowledge, understanding and proficiency to personnel intending to work on ships who will not have any Designated Security Duties.
Other Courses
- Professional Practices & Responsibilities: The PPR will run students through scenario-based questions regarding the validity of different certificates in various situations.
- World Sailing Sea Survival: The aim of the course is to prepare skippers and crew for the worst possible scenarios which may cause accidents, emergencies or abandonment.
