Association of Marina Industries (AMI) Training Institute - Marina Training & Certification

Marina Operations and Management Training / Certification Programs & Online Training Courses

international marina institute imi

Founded in 1986, Association of Marina Industries Training Institute (formerly the International Marina Institute) was created because of the recognition of the need to promote professional education, training, and certification in the marina industry.

AMI has successfully created and delivered many professional marina management schools, including the Advanced Marina Management (AMM) and Intermediate Marina Management (IMM).  Through its timely educational seminars and classes, the training association relentlessly prepared the industry to meet the complex technical and topical challenges of the day.

The curricula of these courses have been tweaked over the years to stay current with the changing times, but they continue to be the training standard by which marina management courses are delivered globally. The next generation AMI will deliver webinars, online training programs, and partner with regional Marine trade associations to grow the reach of its valuable training offerings, with the ultimate goal of providing professional marina training to all who seek it.

Training & Certification Programs

Professional Certifications

  • Certified Marina Manager (CMM): CMMs represent the elite in the marina and recreational boating industry. They value true personal and professional excellence and strive to maintain the highest levels of ethical and moral conduct in their commitment to the marina industry. CMMs have a deeply-rooted respect for the environment and recognize their role in keeping it safe for boaters and the communities that support them. CMMs are marina professionals who have completed an extensive training and certification process through the globally recognized AMI Training Institute, and embrace the continuance of education and training for themselves and those who work within the marina industry.
  • Certified Marina Operator (CMO): The Certified Marina Operator (CMO) certification is specifically designed for those who manage the daily operations of the marina but are not the full-charge facility manager (i.e. manager of marina operations, harbormaster, dockmaster, etc) or owners/operators of a small marina with at least 50 slips (wet and dry combined) OR at least $500,000 in gross revenues.
  • Clean and Resilient Marina Professional (CRMP): A Clean and Resilient Marina Professional (CRMP) is a professional designation that shows you are a leader in environmental stewardship, running an eco-friendly and sustainable marina or boatyard. Through AMI's 2.5 day course, CRMPs learn clean and green marina practices, environmental regulations and, most importantly, begin the process of implementing best management practices at their facility.
  • Clean and Resilient Marina Accreditation Program: AMI’s Clean and Resilient Marina accreditation program was launched to provide a way for marinas in states without Clean Marina programs or those looking for added national recognition of their clean practices, to gain accreditation.  The program works in tandem with AMI’s Clean and Resilient Marina Professional course. Becoming a CRMP is the first step in completing the CRM accreditation.

Marina Management Courses

  • Basic Marina Management Course (BMM, online): This course is designed for individuals looking to get into marina management or managers and owners with early or limited experience in running a marina. The course delivers content through a series of - six lectures that use presentations and participatory learning augmented by group activities. Participants are expected to share their experience and contribute to group discussions.
  • Intermediate Marina Management Course (IMM, Online): AMI's most popular program, has been designed with the right balance of relevant management topics presented by leaders in their industry coupled with valuable facilitated group discussions to create the ideal setting for learning. The intensive participatory nature of this residency course will also provide one of the greatest assets, an invaluable life-long peer network. The IMM program is the first step toward becoming a Certified Marina Manager (CMM) and Certified Marina Operator (CMO) and is a prerequisite for admission to the Advanced Marina Management course.
