Training Programs

Recreational Courses

  • Personal Watercraft Operator (PWC): This is a one-day theory and practical course designed to cover the requirements for the safe operation and maintenance of a personal watercraft.
  • Dinghy sailing course: Dinghy Sailing Course consists of four levels - Bronze Level (Start Sailing 5 days), Silver Level (Safe Sailing 2 to 3 days), Gold Level (Independent Sailing 3 to 4 days), and Platinum Level (Perfected Sailing 5 to 6 days)
  • IYT Try Sailing: The IYT Try Sailing Course is a 3-to-4-hour course aimed to provide candidates with basic introductory knowledge for crewing a vessel (monohull or catamaran) up to 15 meters in inland or coastal waters less than 5 miles offshore during daylight hours in moderate wind and sea conditions.
  • IYT Introductory Sailing Skills: This is a 2-day course aimed to provide candidates with introductory knowledge for crewing a sailing vessel (monohull or catamaran) up to 15 meters in inland or coastal waters less than 5 miles offshore during daylight hours in moderate wind and sea conditions.
  • IYT Day Skipper / Crew - Sail: This is a 3-to-4-day course, depending on wind and conditions, aimed to deliver a safe, informed, confident and competent day sailor/skipper who can confidently command a sailboat up to 10 meters (32.8 feet) and crew during daylight hours in fair conditions in inland waters (bay or lake sailing) or coastal waters up to 5 miles offshore.
  • International Crew: This is a certificate of excellence for those candidates who wish to train to become an active crew member on a power or sailing yacht. it includes an Introduction to Boating for power and sail yachts.
  • International Flotilla Skipper: This is a five-day course aimed at increasing a student’s knowledge sufficiently to be a watchkeeper or a flotilla skipper on a live-aboard sail or power boat.
  • International Bareboat Skipper: The International Bareboat Skipper course is a five-day course. It is not for beginners and the recommended entry level requirements are a VHF maritime radio operators certificate, and to have logged over 200 nautical miles and 10 days at sea before advancing to this level. The candidate should be 16 years of age or over and preferably hold the IYT International Crew Certificate or equivalent. Candidates who do not have 200 nautical miles may take this course and gain miles required to obtain certification during the course.
  • International Flotilla Skipper Sail - Catamaran: This is a 5-to-6-day course aimed at increasing a student’s knowledge sufficiently to be a watchkeeper or a flotilla skipper on a live-aboard sailing catamaran.
  • International Bareboat Skipper Sail - Catamaran: This is a 5-to-6-day course. It is not for beginners and the recommended entry level requirements are a VHF maritime radio operators certificate, and to have logged over 200 nautical miles and 10 days at sea before advancing to this level. The recommended minimum age to obtain this certification is 16. Candidates who do not have 200 nautical miles may take this course and gain miles required to obtain certification during the course.
  • Powerboat Skipper: The Powerboat Skipper course is a five-to-six-day course. This is a certificate of competency for those candidates who wish to skipper a power vessel up to 24 meters in length, in daylight hours, in fair weather and in sight of land.
  • Yachtmaster Coastal (Power or Sail): The IYT Worldwide Yachtmaster Coastal certificate is a recreational certificate of competency for command of sailing and/or power vessels up to 24 meters in length up to 60 nm offshore. It is a comprehensive live aboard course consisting of six days for sail or five days for power, which includes the practical on water examination. The minimum age to obtain this certification is 18.
  • Yachtmaster Coastal Sail - Catamaran: This certificate is a recreational certificate of competency for command of a sailing catamaran up to 24 meters in length up to 60 nm offshore. It is a comprehensive 6 day live aboard course which includes the practical on water examination. The minimum age to obtain this certification is 18.
  • Yachtmaster Offshore (Power Or Sail): This certificate is a recreational certificate of competency to command sailing and/or power vessels up to 24 meters in length up to 150 nm offshore. It is a comprehensive theory and live aboard course consisting of five days classroom theory and a practical component of six days for sail or five days for power including the practical on the water examination. The minimum age to obtain this certification is 18.
  • Yachtmaster Offshore Sail - Catamaran: This certificate is a recreational certificate of competency for command of sailing catamaran up to 24 meters in length up to 150 nm offshore. It is a comprehensive theory and live aboard course consisting of five days classroom theory and a practical component of six days including the final practical on the water examination. The minimum age to obtain this certification is 18.
  • Yachtmaster Ocean: This certificate is a qualification that indicates that the holder has sufficient knowledge of celestial navigation to navigate a 24-meter vessel globally using a sextant and to plan, undertake and manage an ocean passage together with a comprehensive understanding of the factors involved with regards to routing and meteorology. The minimum age to obtain this certification is 18.
  • Patron De Yates - Yachtmaster Coastal Spanish Edition: This course covers the exact same syllabus as the IYT Master of Yachts Coastal course.
  • Marine Communications (VHF-SRC): The IYT Marine Communications course (Very High Frequency - Short Range Certificate) is recognized by the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
  • Small Powerboat and Rib Master (MCA Recognized): This three-day course covers two days of theory and one day of practical boat handling - Covers vessels up to 15m.
  • IYT Commercial Tender License Course: This is a 2-day course to obtain a certificate of competency to command a tender (power vessel) up to 5 meters with maximum 40 HP. This course was designed for the purpose of transporting people (divers) from shore to mother dive vessel, however, it is not limited to this purpose.
  • Weather Master Course: A standalone course for those who are seeking a comprehensive understanding of the factors involved in world meteorology and weather routing for long distance or ocean passages.
  • Navigation Master Training: A standalone course designed to enable the offshore mariner to safely navigate extended passages using traditional methods. It includes practical navigation exercises and sample chartwork calculations.

Superyacht Courses

  • Superyacht Deck Crew Course: The five-day IYT Superyacht Crew course is an MCA recognized course and is highly recommended for entry-level students who wish to enter the superyacht industry. It comprises both theory and practical elements that give the student a comprehensive and all-round general knowledge of the requirements of the superyacht industry.
  • Superyacht Hospitality Training: Professional superyacht hospitality (stew/stewardess training - interior crew). This course is a 5-day course. In addition to this course, interior staff must also hold STCW certification. You should also consider doing the IYT Small Powerboat and RIB course which allows operation of small powerboats and rigid inflatable boats which is required by law in the Mediterranean.
  • Superyacht Chef: The aim of the course is to cover all aspects of life for the Superyacht chef to ensure a smooth and successful transition from land to sea and recommended for all who are considering a career in the Superyacht industry.
  • Master of Yachts Coastal/Mate 200 Tons (Power or Sail): A comprehensive live aboard course consisting of six days for sail or five days for power, which includes the practical on the water examination. The course covers subjects such as Navigational charts and publications, dead reckoning and estimated position, position fixing, tides, tidal levels and data, pilotage, safety at sea, meteorology and much more.
  • Master of Yachts Limited (Power or Sail): The IYT Master of Yachts Limited 200 Tons course has become the most globally accepted course for the operation of commercial yachts up to 200 tons. Recognition by 25 governments has placed IYT MOY 200 Ton accreditation at the top as the global standard of certification.
  • Master of Yachts Unlimited: The IYT Master of Yachts Unlimited certificate is a qualification that indicates that the holder has sufficient knowledge of celestial navigation to navigate globally using a sextant and to plan, undertake and manage an ocean passage together with a comprehensive understanding of the factors involved with regards to routing and meteorology.

  • Train the Trainer: The course is aimed to improve the teaching skills of new or existing instructors who have boating skills and knowledge already in place.

  • Marine Communications Master - VHF Short Range Certificate: Students may study and obtain all the theoretical knowledge to competently operate a VHF/SRC Radio absolutely free.
  • Small Powerboat & RIB Master - MCA Recognized Certificate: Students may study and obtain all the theoretical knowledge to obtain the Small Powerboat & RIB Master Certificate absolutely free.
  • Maritime Business & Law: This course is required for obtaining the IYT Master of Yachts Limited MCA Recognized Certificate of Competency.
  • International Crew: Students may study and obtain all the theoretical knowledge to obtain the International Crew Certificate absolutely free.
  • International Flotilla Skipper & International Bareboat Skipper: This is a free online ‘preparation’ theory course, examination and course completion certificate. After successfully completing the final online theory examination you will receive an online pdf “International Flotilla-Bareboat Skipper Theory Couse Completion Certificate”.
  • International Certificates of Competency 24M (ICCs): Students may study and obtain all the theoretical knowledge to obtain a 24M ICC absolutely free.
  • Module 26 Canadian Boating Requirements (for Transport Canada Approved ICC in Lieu of PCOC): This e-Learning course for candidates who want to gain a thorough knowledge of Canadian Boating Requirements and/or receive the ICC recognized by Transport Canada in lieu of the PCOC.
  • International Certificate of Competency 10M (ICCs): Students may study and obtain all the theoretical knowledge to obtain a 10M ICC absolutely FREE.
  • Marine Communications Master - VHF Short Range Certificate: Students may study and obtain all the theoretical knowledge to competently operate a VHF/SRC Radio absolutely free.
