MARITIME INSTITUTEFounded as Mariners License Preparation School in 1976,Maritime Institute Inc. is the oldest maritime training school in Southern California and has expanded its curriculum to include many US Coast Guard approved courses as well as comprehensive upper level courses for the mariner. Maritime Institute’s classes are shorter in calendar days, but contain contact hours equal to many full semester college courses. This non-traditional, comprehensive form of education has been quite successful in the Maritime Industry for the past thirty years. The Maritime Administration, U.S. Department of homeland Defense, and the United States Coast Guard headquarters of Washington, DC certify Maritime Institute for federally approved courses.

The Maritime Technical Education Program consists of a collection of courses that meet the mission of providing the most complete, comprehensive, and up-to-date education for the professional mariner with an emphasis on safety and environmental awareness. An individual may be required by the USCG to take a Radar Renewal course to renew a license or several courses to upgrade a license. The program has several exit points that coincide with USCG licensure.

As an accredited institution by The Council On Occupational Education (COE). Maritime Institute is approved to offer the first two year associate degree program. Maritime Institute is also a member of the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation. In addition, Maritime Institute has been licensed by the designated Federal Communications Commission Examination Manager to administer the FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit (MROP), and Commercial Radar Endorsement (CRE).
