USCG Approved STCW Basic Training, Firefighting Basic & Advanced Courses, VPDSD Training and Other Courses in Richmond CA
Established in 2015 and located in Richmond CA, the Maritime Safety and Security Center (MSSC) is a maritime-focused safety and security-training center. The center is operated by Cal Maritime and was developed through a public/private partnership between the Chevron Richmond Refinery and California Maritime Academy.
MSSC focusses on uniform training using common standards of practice to fortify coordinated responses. They provide integrated safety and security planning, preparedness, response and mitigation training and strategies to guarantee an operational whole.
MSSC has a six plus acre campus with 9000 square ft office and classroom building, a 140' fire training Simulator & small arms shooting range.
The training programs include - Ongoing Professional Development, MTSA 109 Courses, Marine Firefighting and Safety, Industrial Firefighting and Emergency Response, Small Arms Certification, Various Drills & Exercises, HAZMAT Training, Small Boat Operations, and, Custom Courses & Consulting.
Training Programs
STCW & USCG Courses
- STCW Basic Training (5 days): The STCW Basic Safety Training course includes - First Aid/CPR, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Personal Survival, and Basic Firefighting. However, these courses may also be taken individually. Satisfies STCW Code and 46 CFR relevant sections and tables.
- First Aid and CPR: Any applicant who has successfully completed our 8-hr First Aid and CPR course will satisfy Elementary First Aid training requirements of Section A-VI/l and Table A-VI/l-3 of the STCW Code and 46 CFR 10/205 (1)(3).
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibility: Any applicant who has successfully completed our 4-hr Personal Safety & Social Responsibility course will satisfy the Personal Safety & Social Responsibility requirements of 46 CFR 10.205(l)(4) and section A-VI/1 and table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code.
- Personal Survival: Any applicant who has successfully completed our 12-hour Personal Survival course will satisfy the Personal Survival Techniques training requirements of section A-VI/1 and table A-VI/1-1 of the STCW Code and 46 CFR 10.205(l)(1).
- Basic Marine Firefighting: Any applicant who has successfully completed our 16-hr Basic Fire Fighting course will satisfy the: (1) the Basic Safety Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting requirements of section A-VI/1 and table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code and 46 CFR relevant sections.
- Basic Training Revalidation: Any applicant who successfully completes the Basic Training Revalidation course will satisfy the continued competency requirements for Personal Survival Techniques and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting in STCW as amended 2010, section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(d) and 46 CFR 12.602(d), provided that they have at least 1 year of sea service in the last 5 years.
- Advanced Firefighting Revalidation: Any applicant who has successfully completed the Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation course will satisfy the Advanced Fire Fighting training revalidation requirements of STCW Code section A-VI/3 and 46 CFR 11.201(h)(1), and 11.303(d), provided that the mariner has at least 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years.
- Basic Training Refresher: Any applicant who has successfully completed the Basic Training Refresher (CAMACE-68) course will satisfy the continued competency requirements for STCW Basic Training in STCW, as amended 2010, Basic Training in Section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(e) and 46 CFR 12.602(e), AND, all of the tasks from the National Assessment Guidelines found in NVIC 08-14.
- Vessel Personnel-Designated Security Duties: Also known as STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties.
