Established in 1963 and located in Livermore, California, Las Positas College (LPC) offers curriculum for students seeking career preparation, transfer to a four-year college or university, or personal enrichment.

The College provides university transfer classes, retraining classes for those in need of employment or career advancement, a first-time educational opportunity for many adults, enrichment classes for those seeking a broader perspective, and career and technical training for those entering the technical and paraprofessional work force.

With over 8,500 day and evening students, they can choose any of 24 Occupational Associate Degrees, 17 Transfer Associate Degrees, and 44 Certificate Programs. In addition, the College offers community education courses geared toward personal development and cultural enrichment.

Las Positas College is located 40 miles southeast of San Francisco, amid one of California's fastest growing regions for business, science, and technology. Gently rolling hills and picturesque vineyards provide the scenic background for the College's 147-acre campus.

Training Programs

Apprenticeship Programs

  • Marine Technology Boating 101 Certificate: The Marine Technology Boating 101 Certificate of Achievement can provide the skills necessary for an apprentice to qualify as trained entry-level marine technicians, as well as for career advancement. This apprenticeship program focuses on the mechanical and Electrical side of marine equipment. Students who would like to gain employment at aftermarket shops could take this program and excel in a shop that services many types of marine equipment from multiple manufacturers. Students work side-by-side and hands-on with industry professionals in a fully equipped and up-to-date facility.
  • Marine Technology Yachting 101 Certificate: The Marine Technology Yachting 101 Certificate of Achievement can provide the skills necessary for an apprentice to qualify as trained entry-level marine technicians, as well as for career advancement. This apprenticeship program focuses on the mechanical and electrical side of marine equipment. Students who would like to gain employment at aftermarket shops could take this program and excel in a shop that services many types of marine equipment from multiple manufacturers. Apprenticeship Marine Technology Courses

  • Boatworks 101 Yacht Electrical Systems: This course is an introduction to yacht electrical systems, including the theory of electricity, routine service, and maintenance. 63 hours lecture, 27 hours laboratory.
  • Boatworks 101 Yacht Propulsion Systems: This course is an introduction to yacht propulsion systems, including theory, routine service, and maintenance. 63 hours lecture, 27 hours laboratory.
  • Boatworks 101 Yacht Craftsmanship Lab: This course is a lab-only class that will allow the student to showcase and be evaluated on their craftsmanship skills. 27 hours laboratory.
  • Occupational Work Experience: Student must be enrolled in an apprenticeship program. Each Unit of Credit requires 75 hours of paid work experience. Students can earn 1 to 8 units per semester for a maximum of 16 units of Cooperative Work Experience, which includes General Work Experience and Occupational Work Experience/Internship. May be taken any number of times for a maximum of 16 units of Cooperative Work Experience.
