Founded in 1943, the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA), strengthens and encourages professionalism in the boat building and marine service industry by providing its members with timely information, training, education, and business services.
ABBRA is a member organization that represents over 250 boatyards, repairers and associated industries in the United States and abroad.
ABBRA trains and educate the management and employee craftsman, promoting business professionalism in the marine service industry.
The products and services offered are: Professional Development programs; Technician certificate programs (fiberglass, bottom paint, basic and advanced diesel repair); Employee training programs; Video training - A short and concise video tape on preparing and painting hulls; Management seminars; Performance twenty groups for large and small facilities; and Free job posting board for members.

ABBRA Training Programs
- Marine Service Manager Course (MSM): The Marine Service Manager course is offered by the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA). It is taught by experienced industry professionals and is designed for individuals presently working in, or working toward leadership roles in boatyards and marine service centers by providing broad-based and focused management training. In addition to the lectures and interactive discussions, participants are challenged with a real-world scenario and case study where they must review a marine repair facility situation, and apply their newly gained insights to identifying problems, advising for improvements and proposing corrective measures and modifications to the given scenario. They are required to work as a team and present the remedies in a report that will comprise their final class exercise.
- Step Up to Supervisor: This unique class will help your fledging supervisors adjust to their new position quickly and with the confidence needed to succeed. Topics covered will include – Communications, Time management. Financial management, Establishing goals. Project planning, Delegation, Mentoring, Team building and motivation, Setting boundaries, Cost controls, Inventory controls, Performance feedback, and Compliance issues. This course is co-hosted by the Maine Marine Trades Association.

- Webinar & Seminars: Through its participation in trade shows like IBEX and during its Boatyard Business Conference, ABBRA offers seminars on relevant and timely topics. Additionally, in partnership with ABYC, ABBRA offers Webinars that members can attend without the hassle or cost of travel, or the added challenge of time away from the yard.
- ABYC Training Partnership: The American Boat & Yacht Council and The American Boat Builders & Repairers Association has teamed up to help members continue their education, and attract business.
