Northwood Technical College (formerly known as Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College - WITC), a top ranked two-year college in the nation, offers career-focused associate degree programs, technical diplomas, short-term certificates, customized training, and a wide array of courses for personal or career enhancement.
The college offers more than 50 career programs and is part of the Wisconsin Technical College System. The college has four campuses in Ashland, New Richmond, Superior, and Rice Lake, two outreach centers at Hayward and Ladysmith, and our Washburn County Learning Center located in Spooner.
Northwood Technical College employs a staff of more than 1,700 and provides education to 6,000 credit students in more than 50 full-time programs, plus technical certificates and apprenticeship programs and nearly 20,000 residents in continuing education courses.
The college works closely with local businesses, other educational institutions, and government and service agencies to develop partnerships. Training Programs
Technical Programs
- Technical Diploma in Marine Repair Technician (3 semesters): The Marine Repair Technician program is a three-semester training program designed to prepare students for careers in the marina and marine service industry. The curriculum covers a wide range of skills, including marine engine service, propulsion systems, diagnosis, repair, equipment installation, maintenance, and rigging new boats. Students gain hands-on experience working with two- and four-cycle gasoline engines, drive systems, transmissions, Electrical systems, and consumer-supplied products. Students participate in off-site training at local marinas and dealerships and gain actual service experience through community-supplied projects. The program in unique in the state and is a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and Wisconsin Marine Association (WMA). Marine Repair Technician graduates will be able to - Service marine engines, Service marine propulsion systems, Service diesel engines, Demonstrate welding and metalworking skills, and Demonstrate industry-recognized safety practices.
- Technical Certificate in Advanced Marine Repair Technician (Less than 1 year): The Advanced Marine Repair Technician certificate is designed to provide graduates of the Marine Repair Technician program with the opportunity to develop advanced level skills in the areas of marine engine rebuilding and marine engine/power systems. Students are encouraged to select their own project that will increase their level of expertise as a qualified Marine Repair Technician. This certificate is designed to adapt to specific student interests in combination with the advance technological changes taking place within the marine industry.
