Established in 1871 and located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Yacht Club celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2021 and is the oldest premier yacht club on Lake Michigan. Located in the scenic heart of McKinley Marina, the Club is a year-round destination offering sailing, boating, dining, and events.

MYC has hosted countless Regattas such as Continental and National Championships and many other hugely successful events. Milwaukee Yacht Club not only offers a fantastic sailing venue in the waters of Lake Michigan, it also provides superb attractions and entertainment ashore when the sailing is done.

MYC offers several sailing and captains licensing programs for the sailing and boating enthusiasts. They also offer US Coat Guard licensing courses in Milwaukee. Apart from that MYC also offers advanced sailing classes and ASA certifications.

Captains Licensing Classes

  • OUPV (Charter Captain's License): The course is designed for Captains working and boating on all federal waters with passengers for hire on a power-driven boat. This includes duck hunters, sunset tours, fishing charters, sailing instruction and similar activities. This Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) license and is commonly referred to as the “6-pack” or Charterboat Captain’s License. This license allows you take 6 passengers for-hire, plus crew, on your boat.
  • Masters Upgrade100 Ton Captains License: A Master’s License is the highest-level license and is required if you operate inspected vessels. Inspected vessels can carry more than 6 passengers. For a passenger boat to become inspected, the vessel must be built in accordance with rigid USCG Commercial Vessel Inspection standards. This license allows you to operate both inspected vessels (such as inland ferry boats, harbor tours boats, water taxi or dive boat) and uninspected vessels.

Advanced Sailing Classes

  • ASA 104 - Bareboat Chartering - Two-Day Weekend Format: This is a comprehensive cruising course for sailors with cruising experience. The course includes basic navigation, cruise planning, boat systems, and maintenance procedures. Most charter companies require a sailing resume from the Skipper and look for this internationally accepted certification when chartering a boat.
