Coast Guard Approved Captain’s License Courses, Recreational Boating Courses (RI/MA) & Red Cross - Adult First Aid in Wickford, Rhode Island
Established in 2017 and located in Wickford, RI, In-Command Seamanship Training (ICST) is a leading provider of skill development and certification training for Recreational and Commercial Captain Licensing Courses throughout New England. The ICST is affiliated with a premium boat rental operation, Wickford Boat Rentals and a certified training and testing center for US Powerboating (USPB), BoatUS Foundation, the Rhode Island DEM and the Massachusetts Environmental Police (MEP).
As certified US Powerboating instructors, ICST has the classroom curriculum approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) that will qualify you for a Rhode Island, or Massachusetts state license.
In addition, ICST has partnered with Northeast Maritime Institute in Fairhaven, MA to conduct Commercial Captain Licensing Courses. They offer captains licensing, endorsements and first aid courses in Wickford, RI.
Training Programs
Coast Guard Captain’s License Courses
- Master Upgrade - U.S. Coast Guard (Domestic): The Master Upgrade course is a combined enrolment in our Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels course plus the three-day Upgrade to Master 100 Gross Tons course. The total course hours are 104.
- 6 Pack / Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) - U.S. Coast Guard (Domestic): This 80 hour course is approved in lieu of examination for a U.S. license application for Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels.
- Launch Operator - U.S. Coast Guard (Domestic): This 16-hour course includes the required theory and examination requirements for approved training applying towards a U.S. license application as a Launch Tender (Limited Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels or Master of Self Propelled Vessels Engaged in Launch Tender Service Upon Inland Waters).
- Assistance Towing - U.S. Coast Guard (Domestic): This 4-hour course will prepare an applicant for an Assistance Towing endorsement. The student is required to pass a written examination demonstrating his or her knowledge of assistance towing safety, equipment, and procedures.
First Aid Courses
- Red Cross - Adult First Aid/CPR/AED: The Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for victims about 12 years and older.
Recreational Boating Courses (RI/MA)
- US Powerboating - Start Powerboating Right: This 16-hour combined classroom and practical on-the-water course is for anyone who wants to learn how to safely operate a small motorboat and improve their boat handling skills.
- BoatUS - On the Water Training: The three-hour modules for beginners help you experience how much fun being out on the water can be and how you can begin to advance your boat handling skills.
- Navigation 101 - Basic Navigation and Chart Plotting: This course is designed for boaters of all skill levels. Learn to read and use a chart properly, learn to use the navigation tools and gain the ability to plot a course to your favorite destination(s).
- Rhode Island DEM - Boater Safety Class: This one-day beginner boating class, which is classroom only, will prepare you to take the Rhode Island Boating Exam, which will be administered at the end of the class.
- Rhode Island Boating License - Proctored Exam: You can study online using the state-approved online course found at www.boat-ed.com which will then require you to pass a proctored exam, offered ICST.
- MA - 1 Day Boater Safety: This one- day beginner boating class, which is classroom only (8 hours), will prepare you to take the Massachusetts Boating Exam, will be administered at the end of the class. Upon passing, ICST will submit your application to the state to receive your MA Boating License.
- One-on-One Skill Development / on YOUR Boat: Improve your boat handling skills with a one-on-one training session on one of ICST or your own boats to help you build your confidence and skill so you can enjoy boating with friends and family.
