TAFE Central Regional plays an important role in addressing industry’s need for an appropriately skilled workforce and offers a range of nationally recognized qualifications ranging from Certificate I through to Advanced Diploma in a wide range of industry areas. The campuses are located at Geraldton, Carnarvon, Exmouth, Kalgoorlie, Merredin, Moora, Northam, and Wiluna.
Opened in 2006, the Batavia Coast Maritime Institute (BCMI) campus is a state of the art training, research and development facility located on the oceanfront of the picturesque Separation Point in Geraldton. The Maritime (including Coxwain, Master Class IV and MED), Aquaculture, Environmental and Science programs are all delivered from the BCMI campus. The institute provides Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) prescribed courses for the seafarers.
The BCMI maintains a 20m marine vessel and numerous smaller boats that are used for maritime and aquaculture training. The 20m vessel is named Master Class and is also used for charters to the Abrolhos Islands and for scuba diving courses. Students at BCMI have the unique advantage of learning and developing skills within a commercially operational environment, providing them with a realistic and hands-on training experience.
