With a history dating back to 1919, Estonian Maritime Academy is one of the schools of Tallinn University of Technology (TTU) and offers professional training, education up to masters’ level in the maritime field. The academy is located in the Estonian capital of Tallinn with two centers in the island of Saaremaa. In addition to higher education, Estonian Maritime Academy also contributes to applied research and development in the maritime sector, provide trainings and offer services.

Estonian Maritime Academy has 7 higher education programs and one MA program. The academy also provides courses in English and participates in Erasmus+ program. The Academy also holds a one of a kind Simulator Centre and has a whole dedicated floor of hi-tech laboratories. Based on the needs of the companies or individuals, Estonian Maritime Academy of TUT’s Maritime Training Centre offers courses, seminars and conferences, all in compliance to the requirements of the International Convention - STCW.

Academic & Training Programs

Maritime and Port Programs

  • Bachelors Degree in Ship Engineering (Estonian, 4 years): Prepares ship engineers with higher education qualified to work on ships with unlimited Propulsion Power. The specialist preparation is entirely compliant to the requirements of International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the graduation certificate enables global employment. After three years of studying students will go for seagoing practice, which direction they can choose - Operation of Marine Power plant, Ship Refrigeration Engineer, or Electro-Technical Officer.
  • Bachelors Degree in Port and Shipping Management (Estonian, 4 years): Port and Shipping Management specialty is designed to develop skills and competence through study process and practical work in the industry, preparing graduates for work in management, logistics and administration related positions in the maritime sector. Students learn about seaports, technologies for handling goods and the workings of maritime transportation related institutions, ports, organizing and managing stevedoring operations. They also learn maritime law, commercial aspects of maritime transport and marketing of maritime transport services.
  • Bachelors Degree in Waterways Safety Management (Estonian, 4 years): A student majoring in Waterways Safety Management learns about planning and marking waterways, performing hydrographic surveys and other maritime research and drawing nautical charts. Graduates of this study program are specialists with higher education corresponding to the standard of International Hydrographics Organisation (IHO), who work on ensuring safe navigation for maritime transport in Estonian and international waters.
  • Bachelors Degree in Marine Engineering (Estonian, Saaremaa Campus, 4 years): Prepares specialists with broad engineering skills and expert know-how of specific technological solutions applicable in marine environment, of small craft engineering technologies, materials, equipment, as well as of production control and management.
  • Program in Business and Experience Management (Estonian, Saaremaa Campus, 3 years): Provides future entrepreneurs with broad knowledge and skills from running a business to working in the marketing, service or HR department of a company. The program provides students with knowledge of how to create long-lasting experiences as successful services.
  • Master's Degree Studies Technical Exploitation of Ships and Navigation, and Shipping Management. (Estonian, 2 years): The program is for students who wish become versatile specialists, be able to provide profitable solutions to maritime industry problems, improve their employability while being up-do-date with latest developments in the sector. It includes - Technical Exploitation of Ships and Navigation, and Shipping Management.
