Nationally Accredited Marine Qualifications and Recreational Boating Courses Training in Victoria, Australia
Established in 1995 and located at Geelong Victoria, Marine Training Services has provided commercial marine qualification training in Victoria and is a Recognized Training Organization (RTO). Training may be delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding and is nationally accredited by Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA). They also provide Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) prescribed courses for the seafarers.
All commercial courses include practical tuition onboard MTS 17 meter training vessel Delphinus. The boat is also available for recreational or commercial charter.
Marine Training Services also conducts Victorian Recreational Boat License courses & Personal Water Craft Endorsements Courses throughout metropolitan Melbourne and country Victoria.

Commercial Marine Courses
- Coxswain Grade 1NC - Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) MAR20313 (17 days, full-time): Topics include, Nautical Knowledge, Engineering Knowledge, Onboard Tuition, and Elements of Shipboard Safety (Life-rafting & Firefighting). Upon successfully completing all course requirements participants will receive a Certificate of Course Completion. This is a nationally accredited certificate recognized in all States and Territories within Australia.
- Coxswain Grade 2NC - Certificate I Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal) MAR10413 (11 days, full-time): Topics include, Nautical Knowledge, Engineering Knowledge, Onboard Tuition, and Safety & Emergency. Participants are given 12 months from course commencement (or for Remote Learning students from the date of enrolment) to successfully complete all course components.
- Master 24m NC - Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24 metres Near Coastal) MAR30913 (21 days, full-time): Topics include, Coastal Navigation, Radar, Ship Knowledge, Nautical Knowledge, Onboard Tuition, Elements of Shipboard Safety, First Aid, and Marine Radio - Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency.
- MED 3 - Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal) MAR20413 (10 days, full-time): Topics include Engineering Knowledge, Hand & Power Tools, Onboard Tuition, Elements of Shipboard Safety, and First Aid.
- Elements of Shipboard Safety Course: Topics include, Apply basic survival skills in the event of vessel abandonment, Follow procedures to minimize and fight fires on board a vessel, Meet work health and safety requirements, and Survive at sea using survival craft.
- Marine Radio (MROCP): Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP)
- Passenger Operations through Port Phillip Heads Course: All commercial boat operators who take passengers through Port Phillip Heads are required to hold a Passenger Operations through Port Phillip Heads Local Knowledge Certificate.
- AMSA Exemption 38 Low Complexity Duties Course: MTS has approval from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) to conduct Exemption 38 Low Complexity Duties Courses over 3 days at any suitable venue.
- Passenger Operations through Port Phillip Heads Course: All commercial boat operators who take passengers through Port Phillip Heads are required to hold a Passenger Operations through Port Phillip Heads Local Knowledge Certificate.
Boat & PWC License Courses
- Recreational Boating Courses: The course is designed to assist mariners in obtaining the knowledge required to qualify for the Recreational Marine License and/or PWC endorsement.
